Im looking for opinions on a good Angus bull with Low BW to use on my daughters heifer.  She is a Monopoly Money and Meyer 734/angus.  I am wanting a bull that could still produce a showy calf.

I would use northern improvement if it has to be an angus bull. There are some pretty decent calving ease maine bulls that may give you a better chance of showy calf.  Saw some pretty good ali solution calves this year that came small but grew really well.  Keep in mind that that head shape and size contibutes alot to calving ease beyond just birth wght.  Good luck

I guess it doesn't have to be an Angus. I've just been told to use a really easy calving bull. The heifer has a pretty thick hind end and some decent bone on her.

My neighbor bred his hw x miss USA ( Meyer 734) to northern improvement for her first calf and he jacked a 90# bull calf out of her. He said it was the hardest pull he ever had. Don't get me wrong, I love northern improvement but I don't believe he is a sure fire CE bull, especially on clubby bred hfrs. I would go with final answer or in focus if ur main concern is CE. Conneally consensus is a really cool looking Angus bull with CE #'s also. Good luck.

I had a 50LB Northern Improvement heifer calf out of a clubby heifer, came easy and quick this spring, nice heifer that I am keeping for a replacement. I believe you can have a large calf out of any bull if it is a clubby heifer/cow. The heifer/cow has a lot to do with it. I had a 50LB heifer calf out of a heat wave heifer from Built Right the simmi bull. Anyway I do like NI and Built Right on heifers but like anything you breed to clubbies you have to watch clubby heifers or cows (till they prove other wise) when they get close to calving. I still watch my huge Maines that have clubby genetics in them when they get close even though they can have a 100#calf with no trouble at all.

This last spring I used SAV Brilliance on a Monopoly Irish Whisky heifer. She calved a nice 70# calf.  Her calf isn't too bad either, just has a bit of an attitude compared to what her mother was like. Not sure if that is something brilliance throws or not.

If you want a live calf and a live uncrippled heifer I would suggest that you focus on high accuracy CALVING EASE (CE) bulls - it is not the birth weight so much as the shape of the calf that is important - especially with clubby females who provide about 50% of the genetics of the calf - an 80 pound square calf (broad head, big shouldered, big boned, big hipped) is much more of a problem that an 80 pound long headed slim shouldered calf, long bodied calf) or put differently it is harder to get a square peg thru a round hole.

There are many high accuracy calving ease bulls of different breeds - I prefer Red Angus and have had excellent luck with Leachman Above & Beyond - he makes fabulous females, calves pop right out, get right up and aggressively teach the heifer what to do and they grow. Give your daughters heifer the best chance of a long career as a cow

Awesome for us on birthweights and lively calves. They grow well and his CED is +14 with .92 ACC and BW -1.1 with .96 ACC. He adds some volume when needed and the calves have consistently fed well.
I love red angus but we haven't taken a stab at them yet. I would prefer the coloring over black bull on my shorthorns. But we use him cuz I have so much in the tank.
Have never had an issue on Northern Improvement. Used on Heat Wave x MOssy oak heifer had a peanut. Her BW was high but out of a mature cow. 98#'s. She threw a saleable calf. Never had issues with her but have never corssed back clubby on her.

You may want to check into Bush's Unbelievable, Journey, & EXAR Insight. All Angus and fairly new so not much accuracy yet. Unbelievable will have the most calves on the ground by far. Talk to Alan Miller @ PVF Angus about Insight & Bob Horseley about the Journey bull.

In addition to the female's genetics playing a role in calf size, how you manage the females contributes greatly to calf size. Particularly the last 2-3 months. Most can get by on fair quality forage and mineral supplement and do just fine. A heifer may need a bit more because she is still growing.  IMO the free choice protien lick tubs are a big cause of increased calf size.

If I were you I'd be looking at using something form the SAV Bismarck, SAV Final Answer or MTTY In Focus lines.  She has plenty of bone in her so you need to avoid anything that's going to add to that.  Personally I would use Bismarck on her.  He'll add some rib shape to her and still give you a really nice show heifer.

Do you know if you can get sexed heifer semen on either of the SAV bulls. Ive seen it for SAV Brilliance

The sexed female semen for Bismarck is on the market, but it's in such high demand that it is very hard to come by.  It's for a good reason.  I haven't seen many Bismarck females that I didn't like.  His biggest weakness is he can pass on "soft" toplines.  Your heifer looks pretty strong topped so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I like the Bush's Unbelievable bull and he will work on low-moderate BW heifers but I would stay away from him on any clubby type heifers....(HW).  I would stick with SAV Brilliance, he is consistant and typically calves will comeout decent.
