Need opinions on my choice of bulls on pure-bred simmi cows.  These will be second calves for these two cows, one is a Dream-On and the other is a Nichole's Legacy.  My goal is to produce calves with the best maternal qualities, yet have a good foundation from which to breed back to composite bulls.  These are my only pure-bred Simmi cows (that are of breeding age), and I want to approach it correctly.

I am getting ready to A.I. and wonder if I should go with Sim-angus calves from Lut (Plainview Lutton), or from Duff New Edition & Basic Instinct.  These are my angus choices from the tank.  My preference for these calves is good future cows over getting the best show animals - of course it would be great to get both!

I can't speak for how Lut heifers are for cows, but they make some dandy show heifers that LOOK the part of being clubby mommas....then again, Duff bulls are some of the best for making clubby mommas, but I'm not sure that very many are shown around here.

"Lut" is a really good ANGUS bull.Bred to Angus cows,I have seen some real good heifers. The DUFF bloodlines are basically the OHLDE bloodlines. It is the hottest crossing blood, except for the old EMULOUS bloodline that came from the CORBINS. Collins Cattle co. pretty much has a lock on that blood.Sunset View, which I'm sure you know, has some of the Duff Blood, mostly females to breed Steel Force and Star Power and other bulls. The DUFF cattle will downsize as you need, for club calf momma production. I see no reason why not even "Lut" might even work for you.I would breed most of them to the DUFF bulls, but reserve at least one good cow for "LUT" and see what happens. I haven't heard of any Simmy breeders crossing them that way,but who know's?Sunset View has a couple halfbloods in their sale that I would give a lot up to have. GOOD LUCK no matter which way you decide.
