Mamas boy calves?

I have been seriously thinking about using Mamas boy on our reg. simmi heifer out of Star power. She is super goose fronted, big ribbed, stout boned, sound, and carries it all in a smooth package. I would like to see more growth, even more rib, while still keeping soundness, and style. She needs a new picture posted up. Oh, and does anyone have any pictures of the bull, guideline? Would you have any other suggestions? Thanks!

We had a mamas boy bull calf out of our dirty harry former show heifer. He was a full faced blazed, sound structured, smooth profiling, and long necked bull calf, a little narrow based.  He just didnt quite have the muscle dimension as his mother. We did sell him as a show steer, he should make a good fat. I would not recomend this bull for heifers, our calf was 9 days overdue and weighed 90 lbs, a pretty good pull.

make sure you use him on stout and good fronted females.

    Been around many born, most out of heifers, have had no pulls.  Is he a sure fire, bulletproof calving ease sire?  No.  If that's what you seek, I recommend you use only a straightbred calving ease angus bull.  If you seek an alternative to angus with proven calving ease, with more potential for return, here you go.  We've sold 35-40 bred heifers bred to him in our sale, with 1 pull. 

As far as front ends go, pretty tough to find a simmi influenced bull that will put a better front in one.  Consistantly good throated.  If used on sloppy fronted cows, dont expect zipper throat. 

Recommended use on stouter females.  Adds great style, extension, body, hair and superior soundness.

We got some calves from him last spring.  All bulls.  They are pretty clean fronted and have some thickness.  We only used him on cows & the calves were normal sized - not huge but not small either.  I think calves are a tick thicker & deeper than the same cows' calves were last year from different bulls.  I'll use him again but would really like some heifers next time!

Stick with a sure fire easy calving bull for her first calf, you won't regret it. I just bred a bunch of my Star Power heifers to RAB-EGL Blue Moon. Blue Moon wouldn't give you the look you're going for, but there are plenty of other calving ease Angus bulls to use and they would certainly add some body to your heifer. A SimAngus bull would probably work well too.

Yeah, I would like to stick with something I can register PB. What about ACCI hustler? I have heard he was calving ease, and I know someone who has used him but i never got feed back on the calves.

Breed her to DJ Salution or S.O.S.

You won't have to worry about getting the calves on the ground out ACC1 Hustler. They come small & vigorous. Have some look, but could be stouter IMO.

dream on is suppose to be calving ease. but that doesnt help you cuz she is a star power. 

With as hot as the Sim-Angus deal is, Northern Improvement, SS TRaveler, and Legend would be a great fit for her.
Saw a really nice heifer out of Goldmine but more experienced Simmi folks would know if he is calving ease.
For the first go around goal is that live calf. I like to register everything as well, but I would rather have live calf and heifer than dead either.

I really dont mind if the calf is a sim angus. I thought about Goldmine as well, he works really well on the Cow sides genetics. As far as an angus bull goes what are your thoughts on Dark horse? Huge bodied animal, but I heard he is a carrier for something? Will this effect us in cross breeding?

Some Simmental CE sires that come to mind are Ebonys Grandmaster, Goldmine, In Dew Time, Ebonys Trademark, and BMR Explorer. The only bull I have experience with is In Dew Time and they came pretty easy.

I think Darkhorse would be too risky. He's unproven and his CE EPD is low.

Goldmine is a true calving ease Simmi.   We used him on all our commercial heifers a year ago.  The calves were small but not tiny.   The only assists we had were with twins & malpresentations.    You'll give up a little performance.   Most of our calves were bulls .  They aren't the biggest calves in the pen, but they aren't shrimps either.   As a group, they are pretty clean fronted and sound.    I wish we'd have gotten more heifers as the Goldmines are supposed to make good cows.    I'd use him again on heifers.    

how bout the half blood grizzly bull that is new! he looks soft middled and stout!

hooks shear force 38K is what I bred all my heifers to this year, also AI'd 15 heifers for a neighbor to Grizzly. All due the start of march. His heifers either are stuffed full of hay or 75% of them are going to be big calves so I'm not sold on grizzly just yet. Have to wait a couple more months. Last year I bred my heifers to Lookout and have some decent heifers I am keeping back. He was easy calving but I don't think one of them look as good as he does.

i know the baldy cow he is out of is sired by hotmail and she is a cool female! he looks like he will add more rib, flank and mass than most the simmy bulls. i want to know if he is calving ease?
