Last week at Innisfail Auction Market in Alberta a group of 40 + commercial shorthorn bred heifers averaged in the high $1700 range.  These heifers were sired by Eionmor bred bulls as were their dams. They were bred Speckle Park. I had heard of some hereford angus bred heifers bringing up to the mid $1600 range in Saskatchewan in December. Is the market for bred females going up in your area?

WELL JUST MY TWO CENTS BUT HERE IN WESTERN ILLINOIS GOOD BRED 3 TO 5 YEAR OLDS ARE IN THE 1250.00 TO 1450.00 RANGE. BUT WHEN YOU CAN SELL A FAT OPEN TEN YEAR OLD COW FOR 60 TO 80 CENTS A POUND  THAT IS CHEAP FOR A BRED COW. ESPECIALLY SINCE CALVES ARE AVERAGEING $700.00 PLUS OFF THE COW.  SO I GUESS THE POINT IS THAT THEY ARE WELL WORTH THE MONEY IF YOU ARE BUYING AND CHEAP AS HELL IF YOU ARE SELLING CONSIDERING THE POTENTIAL RETURN  ON  INVESTMENT. IM GALD TO SEE THAT IN SOME AREAS THEY ARE BRINGING A FAIR PRICE. MAKES ME WISH I HAD HELD MY BRED HIEFERS FOR TWO MORE MONTHS.

Bred commercial Angus hfrs this week made to $1600 which is up $500 to $600 on previous years. Top lines of joined cows are making similar money. With most of Australia having its best grass year in 40 plus years cattle are selling very well with most females being mated to restock after many years of drought in many parts of the country.

We sold a nice group in the PT sale. Black Opens to be bred for fall delv.  I had so much interest early last fall in the AN X SH. I think the feed lot guys are talking "fewer days on feed" and we know that cross screams efficient.

Rob Sneeds Back 2 Basics will offer alot of  nice fall pairs and breds both SH and SHx An.
March 24th.
