I've heard of using this product for getting nice smooth fat cover on steers.  If anyone has any firsthand experience using this product with suggested feeding schedule/amount, it would be greatly appreciated!

I am feeding a friends sheep for Louisville right now and he has me giving them 2 oz per head. It definitely firms up loins and I think the fat isn't as splotchy so to speak...no lumps. I am planning on using it on my lambs next year. I would think it would work the same...but its a lil pricey imo. I got a 25 pound bag for 24 bucks but I'm not feeding much of it. He had a bag that lasted him 3 seasons...said the fat was firmer than regular fat...

A family who we provide steers to usef it this past year.  We started out about 90 days prior to show day with one pound per day and worked it upto two pounds per day.  It worked wonders in my opinion and would certainly recommend it.  Like others have said not all TSC stores stock it so you might need to visit the web page to find a store near you.  If memory serves me correctly we paid $22 per bag.

Great stuff!  This is our 3rd year using it on steers.  Puts a nice smooth finish on em.  We start 2-3 months prior to show and build up slowly to 2 lbs. a day.  You can get the pellets or meal at TSC, but the meal is a few bucks cheaper per bag.  I tried both and they seem to eat the meal better anyway.  I am going to try it this year on our goats.

I'm not familiar with the Max E Glo brand, but if it is 18 - 22% Fat, then it's the good stuff.  I have only fed Healthy Glo, the ADM/Moorman product developed for Race Horses.  Feed as the other posters recommend.  I much prefer the meal over pellets.  The Stabilized Rice Bran is also good to have on hand to top dress for a picky eater because it tastes so good.  When I first learned of the product (1996) I was informed by a Beef Nutritionist the Rice Bran would trigger a natural occuring Steroid, which is responsible for muscle develpment.  An added benefit is how healthy, thick & shiney it makes a calf's hair.
