He has one of the best maternal pedigrees I have seen. Has anyone seen any calves out of him? What are your guys opinions on what situation he needs to be used in?
Actually had just bumped your thread about it asking if you had a new picture. I'm looking to use him on a bunch of Angus females for replacements.Barry Farms said:I have 3 heifer calves out of him 2 out of first calf heifers. First one born feb 1st has pattern just like 735! White spot on the forehead bit a white on the mouth and socks the other two he passed on the solid color gene so the 4th calf I have by him should have socks. They have all been healthy, vigourus, and big legged/big boned especially compared to commercial angus calves. I think he could make fairly good steers even though he is really marketed as a maternal bull but thats my opinion. I bought these heifers bred to him specifically because I wanted calves with socks and some % of maine. I think you should use him in a situation where you want very good maternal replacement heifers OR ok steers.
They sound solid. What are the breeds/pedigrees of the mommas?Barry Farms said:If I remember to I will take a new picture. Those calves are the tallest, stoutest, and prettiest in the pasture but the other calves are mostly commercial.
Sim-Angus mothers one is a dream catcher cow (who orphaned her calf), another is a commercial Sim-Angus who had the calf with socks and another that I forgot the pedigree ofMuddy Creek Show Cattle said:They sound solid.
