Thanks Ted. Several of us here on Steer Planet have cattle consigned. For us, it is our first bulls to sell and our first bred and owned.

What were the averages from the Wisconsin's sale?

I'd say the 11 bulls couldn't of averaged over $1,800. Mine and one other were only 2 halter broke bulls. Couple Red Angus bulls and one 5 year old I think Simmental bull. Older Simmy bull brought $2,900 I think.

Females were very high. It's a guess without doing the numbers but somewhere between $2-3,000 I think......

No idea why no one was looking for bulls but they sure were hot after females. My bulls Reg# is 2613805 with top 2% CED 3% BW API 4% and TI 10%. He is smaller framed but couldn't even get any interest in him while in the ring! Learned a lesson I hope you don't see at your sale!

Did you put a floor on him? Too bad, I fear our bull prices will be low also, since there is only 10 consigned. We shall see! Bull kill prices last week were $1, hate to see them go there...

Yes I floored him but the guy in charge of the sale never did anything during the sale with it and thank god a guy on their board bought him so I will have to pay commison on him but at least I got him home because I can't give him away! That's right with kill prices around $1 them couple older bulls semen checked and ready to go were a bargain.

I don't see why it's that way at these state sales when off the farm and private sales they are averaging around 4k from what I have seen...

There were very few no sales at this sale and most of consignors I talked with were happy with what things brought. The person in charge (president of the board) was not asked to floor the bull, but was just told that if he didn't bring enough you should not have to pay full commission. This sale is not run by a single person, but rather a board of directors. If the bull needs protection it should be the responsibility of the consignor to talk with a ringman, auctioneer, or someone in the crowd not the person trying to keep the sale going. I saw your bull and ran the epds on him  before the sale (which were not correct , yearling weight went from 74  to 47.9) and while being a nice bull he was not not big enough for his age to work into my program as my cows are bigger and he would have a hard time servicing them.  Edps all changed in the breed in December, so  I believe that was an honest mistake as you proably took the numbers from your registration papers and not online. Speaking as another consignor I believe this sale is run very well and most things brought what they would at any other sale I have been to.  All the sale representatives thought they had a good sale also. The Wisconsin Simmental Association seem to do a very good job running the sale at a reasonable commission rate as everything is run by their board and volunteer labor. They run the sale, but cannot set the price altough they had a very big crowd on hand animals only bring what bring what people will bid.

Mr. Kaisand yes I did talk to the President of the WI Simmental Assocaition and thought it was taken care of and hey it all worked out fine. And I thought I had the right to ask not to pay full commision when the info got messed up when I provided the correct info. And the only bull in the sale that had that happen.(only animal EPD's for the fact)  And I understand that he was not an ideal bull but with his CED BW with API and TI I was confident that he could have sold better if promoted to what he was. I was also impressed with the sale on the female side.

I'm another one that had mixed feelings on that sale but ill keep my thoughts to myself to be polite and not ruffle any feathers. There were a few smoking good heifers there though , I will say that
