Trying to make some breeding decisions for a group of maternal bred Chi-Maine heifers. They all had calves by Copyright, New Edition and The Answer this year with no problems at all and they are all doing a great job raising their calves but I would like to breed them for a little stouter more stylish calf. Would Monopoly or One and only be ok for second calves or would Thriller or Dirty Hairy 2 be better for a second calf ?

I've used Monoply for second calves and never had a problem. I'm sure some people on here will advise you not to though.

I have not seen enough One and Only's to have an opinion. I would say that sometimes Monopoly does not add any bone at all. I think he has to be used with the right mix. My opinion is Monopoly isn't as extreme as his father. I think Monopoly's dam added alot to the equation.

What is the right mix for Monopoly?

big boned thicker made cows with a cleaner neck    reason being he doesn't add alot of bone, he isn't as thick as heat wave and he can make them a little plain necked if bred to a cow that has a little leather

Well monoploy is out of an angus cow so that explains plain necks, not ading bone, not wide as HW, etc. If you have a smaller framed 2nd calver i would go with one and only. I have heard that they come smaller (70 to 80)  and just explode from there.

Would Walks Alone be a better choice for the Chi. 2nd calvers and One and only be better for a couple of Simmi. 2nd calvers ? Surely One and only would help clean up the floppy fronts on the Simmi`s.

off topic but what do u think about your copyright calves
[I really like the Copyright calves they have some bone to them for Angus calves. I would use him on heifers again as we had no calving issues with this group. I will say that the New Edition calf is a little stouter than the Copyrights/quote]
