It jumped to 30 around labor day, and then 40 about a month ago.  I know that there was some that sold for 80 a straw at the Joe Lucas dispersal a couple weeks ago.  Doubtful that it is coming down anytime soon, if ever.

I talked to the guy at REI that collects him this summer and he said they had more semen than you could imagine.  I asked because I knew this would happen because of his popularity and we would hear rumors of not collecting, etc.  It's just supply and demand.  It won't come down unless people don't want to use it anymore.  It's propably going up.

Shortdawg did you look into Headliner,All Abroad, (flushmates to Monopoly), by chance or Highliner? My Turn is a good bull and I saw some good calves out of him this fall, but he will take a cow that is different from Monopoly IMO.
Monopoly will not go back down. It would surprise me if he doesn't go higher & then the clones will come later. Best sire group that I saw this fall and I heard that from most PPL. If the Monopolies can finish up and win, look out. I'm going to try to hold out & see.

The best combination that I saw was My Turn on Pale Face. Saw a good My Turn X Northern Improvement. Cows seem to have to be "pretty" to make him work.
I saw Muddy Water up @ Hawkeye this spring. He is a very complete bull. I got into 2 pens to look closer and his was one of the pens.
Has anyone seen a # of the Headliner calves in person. I'm thinking that I would use him instead of Monopoly.

A short word of advice - if you will.

I just had the privoledge to go to Oklahoma to help a long time assiciate do some work there, and Monoloply was heavily used at all three stops.

The problem was conception !! Unfertilized eggs galore on many good cows -- when asked what color code the semen cane was -- 2 of the 3 said they had been sold WHITE or SILVER topped canes.

People, if you go to REI and ask, those two color codes are processed ONLY for personal use -- in the owners herds -- and not of sufficient quality to be sold. It is common knowledge -- but low and behold -- that was what they had been given.

Blue is the better stuff from REI, and I believe the old Hawkeye was Green. Still, the quality was very marginal. I was asked to thaw a unit at one stop after three donors in a row failed to fertilize, and I called that semen less than 10 % actively moving under the scope. Not a very good reaction from the owner of the cows I might add.

One stop had good results, but had the older semen in the tank for some time.

I did see some stem winder good ones at all the spots -- he is working well!

Be carefull and have a great holiday next week!

i think my turns looked real stout with natural thickness but i would use him extra feminine cows with good fronts.  we bought a large quantity of monopoly at $40, who knows where it will go.

Got cows to breed soon and didn't want to wait on Monopoly. The reason I went with My Turn was based on opinion of someone I trust also saw jbh's video.

My Turn on Who has been flat out tearing it up this year from what I've seen. If i had any Who cows i would breed them My Turn. Monopoly will come down when they get the clones out of him.

My Turn will take a pretty cow & Monopoly will come down if he doesn't produce some bigger show winners.JMO

Monopoly is a good bull who has thrown some good calves. But he hasnt consistently thrown big time show winners. The whole semen jump thing was imo Monopoly getting over hyped, the owners seeing the demand and rumoring what the "supply"  ::) is. A "marketing" point that the seller has used to raise his prices.

I know the Reserve Champion from the Ohio State Fair was a Monopoly and from travelling out west looking at calves, there will be plenty of winners this show season.  The price will not be going down any time soon.

there were quite a few prospect shows taht were won by monopoly steers.  And i wouldnt call it all hype when everyone is saying that he is the closest thing to heat wave himself.

I am confused a little, silver and white are not good quality, blue is the best from REI, so where does that leave the green top?  The reason for the question is I just had some green shipped to me a month ago.
