When we first seen this calf, he was great. He was still on his momma so we couldn't take him then. The guy we bought him off of told us, 'Take him to weigh-ins, and bring him back here (our new barn wasn't fully finished yet) and I'll have him fed out, and broke for you guys' We took up his offer, needless to say the guy did nothing to this calf, he was no where near being broke, and to be quite honest, it looked as if he didnt even feed him that much. At our weigh-ins in December he weighed 548, when we got him to our house in about mid-January, he weighed 590. Were not sure of his weight now. I spent all the time I possibly could and many hours after midnight in the barn, to get this calf to where he is now. This calf went from good, to bad, to a decent looking steer. I just have to keep reminding my dad, I know I dont have a Grand Champ., maybe not even a class winner, I have a decent calf, and thats all that matters to me.

When's your show?  Pour the groceries to him, and I think he'll be a nice one.

I think you are doing an excellent job considering the rough start.  You have a great attitude and a good work ethic.  Good luck with your calf!

Looks like you have done a great job following the rough start.  You should be proud of your attitude concerning the calf and where it could place at your show.  I know I would be pleased to have one of my calves in your hands and I am sure many others would also.  Your hard work and a great attitude will make you a champion no matter where your calf stands in class.  Good luck and keep up the hard work.

Best of luck to you! I have learned that no matter what you place first or last it doesnt matter as long as you had fun, put all of your effort into it and feel accomplished! Thats what counts the most in my book..what you learn from your experience and all of those memories! You have already won the grand price with that great attitude!!

Nice job on a feeder steer. What county are you in? I would love to sell a decent calf to somebody who works hard in the preparation, most times thats what wins in the ring. My daughter has done it for years.

I know many breeders will let a good one go a little cheaper to someone who will feed, fit and show the calf to the best of it genetic potential.  Good luck.  LF

Great job young lady!  See, your hard work is paying off because people are asking you to come look at their calves.  It might not be a trophy on the shelf, but what you've earned  lasts a lot longer.

SlickTxMaine- My shows next Thrusday.
I am glad that u have that kind of attitude, some people would never. He seems like a good steer, nice length. It is just that he needs to put weight on ::)
