Wasn't expecting this calf- guess it goes to show those talking about genetics don't lie... Two blacks can in fact make a RED>
About 2 weeks ago, we started getting calves sired by the upcoming 2 year old bull we raised and bred exclusively with last year as a baby. His first calf was born July 12- and he will not be 2 years old until the end of Sept. He is sired by the Dr. Feelgood bull we bought from Jeff Cornell (feeder duck), and from the best Angus cow on our place. We call him "Pyromania". I would guess there will be another 10 or so cows and first calf heifers bred to him yet to calf throughout the fall-- although we sure didn't expect the last two to calve so quickly-- even the vet was wrong! I have not seen any of these calves in person yet- as they are at my parent's place-- but I'm impressed thus far none the less-- kinda interesting looking calves for them to be less than a day old in the pictures. I attached his picture taken last Jan- after running 15 cows since turning 10 months old-- obviously!
Anyways, the solid red bull calf is from a Red carrier Angus cow- Beckton Lancer dtr. and the blue heifer calf is from a purebred Kool daughter. We've also got another solid black bull calf that I cannot find the picture of right now-- his mother is a grand daughter of OCC Homer.
