Was down at Louisville for the weekend and watched the market steer show today. I was wondering why they don't print the pedigree of the steers on the program? I thought that would be very beneficial and cool to learn what the steers actually were...
Any input would be great.

Most of the steers are crosses...and there is no information on the entry form for the pedigree of steers...thus the NAILE doesnt have the pedigree info to print on the steers.

Something they ought to look at changing.  Do you think there is any reason behind this?  Is it to prevent a name bull from automatically winning?  I would guess in most case the sire of the high end calves  becomes common knowledge around the show, before the show.

Well with most of them being crosses and not registered you could really write anything down.  That would lead to some people probably writing down a bigger named genetics if they thought it would help them. If you like a calf someone around there could tell you what its out of.  I dont think you will ever see the shows listing the sire and dam of the steers.

I was also down there and I thought that the Guyers steer should've been flip flopped the Bonahm steer.

Matt Lautner's blog has great video of the event.
They don't list the sire of the Bohnam calf so I assume it was NOT a Lautner bull....Raised by Chester Lee of Battle Creek Iowa

Guyer steer was a Monopoly raised by John Sullivan of Dunlap Iowa....this was a full sib to the Grand Champion Steer at the Iowa State Fair.

Heard GC was a Carnac. Alot of people seemed to agree with the flipping statement.

I wish I could have been down on the floor level. ML TV was great but it would have been nice to be there. They looked pretty close. Really super looking calves.

Can someone a lot smarter than me put up the video that you are talking about please? I went to MLC and it says that it is a private video and I can't watch it. Thanks.

Who are in your "usual cast of characters".  I would say names like Bohnam, Guyer and Vickland are pretty consistant and proven winners....

What was the weight of those steers

That's a good question. They use to put that information on the NAILE results. I didn't see it and I also noted a commentator mention a steer in the 1365 and 1370 was too big. I thought they wanted in that 1350 range?  What's winning now? Weight wise?

i think i remember seeing one of them was 1348.

although i also heard the lightest weight calf in that class was 1328.

i never saw a program or a class list, that was just whatever info i garnered from some people able to watch.
