I bought my middle child a Herford steer for his first show season this year(I heard they were real gentle). We got him here yesterday but we are drawing a blank on a name. I thought it would be fun to see what some of you guys can come up with. Just for clarification , this is the first Herford to set foot on our farm and I'm not leaving my beloved shorthorns. I like the name RED ?

humm.. Joe Boy has named a bull after me & now maybe a steer?

I liked to call our Herefords "Ford". That way your boy can yell "here Ford" when he's calling him! I'm sorry, couldn't resist that! (lol)

Well shortdawg, I usually don't name 'em til I know 'em or at least have an inkling about them. I did however encourage a young boy (much to the dismay of his father) to name his steer Kumquat (it did fit him in a sort of fruity way!) Red is a nice name, but pretty common for a red animal! - what does the middle child think??

Breed a Hereford cow to the bull Hairy. Have a bull calf. Name him: Hairy's son Ford

He said he liked " Red ". My oldest son's first steer was named " Bart " and it fit him. He was 1385lbs at our county show and would probably have followed my son without a halter. The hereford is pretty gentle too.
