I really need some help with this one. I have to clip the goats but have never done or even seen it done. I really need to know what blades to use(add photos of them if you could). Do you go with or against the grain? Are there different blades for face and belly and such or just all over. We have a show at the end of the month and need to get this done but I am really nervous about screwing it up.

I clipped ours last summer a couple of times: just used the clippers we use on cattle for first cut, and then went over them with finer clipper I use for clipping my horses' faces.  I know you clip from the hock up; slicking the body.  Make sure you have a stand for clipping.  I clipped ours the first time w/o one and it was a nightmare.  The stand will make it 100% easier.  I know there are specific clippers and blades that will make the job easier....I just used what I had.  Sorry I was not more help.

I am assuming you are clipping for a market show??  I know you clip breeding goats differently.

I slicked them all the way down; less than 1/4 of an inch remaining.  I paid a guy to clip for us before our show and he stripped them all the way down that short as well. Make sure to clip them about a week out from show to allow time for any lines to grow out.  Oh, and they will sunburn after clipped, so be careful of that as well.

If you are new to show goats....like me; check out texasshowgoatconnection.com - lot of good info.  Justin Misseldine is the moderator.  When you get to the site, click on the goat at the top and then "ask the expert".  You can post questions for him to answer, and of course read everyone else's questions/answers.  There is also a goat guide tab that you can read that has a lot of good info.  There is a message board on the site, but not too many people post.  This site is for show goats and lambs.  Check it out, I learned a lot from the site.
