I'm looking at neck sweats and am just wondering if anyone has one and how they like it. Would also like any tips or hints!! I don't know whether or not to put it on in the evening or morning. Also, does anyone have one they are willing to part with. I only have one heifer I need it for so I don't want to spend $50 on it to use one time. Thanks a head of time!

We use mouthwash and glycerin wrap with syran wrap and then cover with neck sweat, it doesn't burn the skin like the hot sweat products. We usually wash in the morning and then leave on all day while in the barn and take it off before we kick them out at night an repeat this for as long as needed. Hope this helps!

Mainevent, where do you purchase glycerin wrap??

Thats not what MainEvent was saying...There is no such thing as Glycerin Wrap.  He said mix mouthwash and glycerin and then wrap with syran wrap and then wrap neck sweat on the animal.  This is exactly what we do and it works great, seen results within a few days and the mix is alot cheaper then buying Hot Sweat

What's the ratio of mouth wash to glycerin, and does it matter what type of mouthwash or just the cheapest?

Cut a section out of an old truck tire inner tube and slide it over their head. Nothing is cheaper,(free at the tire store), works better or lasts longer. Put them on baby calves at the end of summer and take them off at weaning.

do you just pour the mouthwas/glycerin on the neck or would rubbing it on with a rag be easier? how much should you put? a whole bottle or glycerin and mouthwash? what works best? also, how long do you keep the neck sweat on? 8 hours? 12 hours?

The rag would be better for mouthwash but I would rub the glycerin on the neck by hand, just apply both as much as needed, kind of depends on how fast you want to swear them down. I leave it on all day while in the barn after I wash, ad then take it off as I kick them out. So I would say 6-8 hours.

We use the green Listerine.  Then mix it in a spray bottle 1/2 & 1/2, then we just spray it on our heifers necks until they are soaked, then we rub it in a little to get it to the skin.  Then we wrap it up and leave it on while they are tied to stand during the day.  People suggested putting it on when we turned them out at night, but they get the wrap filthy, I thiink they rubbed it on EVERYTHING, so at $50 a piece, we decided that they would wear it while they were tied so hopefully we could extend the life of the wrap.

I put a leather one on top of a neoprene one. That way they can't rub off the velcro..

I tried one on my heifer this year.. but her whole body started sweating even under the fans.. and she began to loose her hair so i stopped using it. I figured it was just keeping her body temp too hott
