this is our first year to feed anything other than black steers.  we have two silver grey calves but can not get a grip in the urine stains on the lower hip.  we use the purple soap from sullivans and ez-all.  we still have almost 8 weeks till the big show.  thanks

Don't know if it will help or not but it is worth a shot, plus it won't hurt anything and is cheap.  We had a black and white heifer that we were trying to dye the black without getting any on the white.  My hairdresser suggested going to the Dollar General (or Walmart) and getting a tub of cholesterol conditioner from the ethnic hair care section and putting it on the white before we died the black parts.  It kept the black off but more importantly when we washed the conditioner out, the white was significantly whiter.  Stains gone and everything and her hair felt GREAT!

There's a product that's called Golden Nugget. It's hard to find, it use to be in Valley Vet. I'd try googling it. We have numerous shorthorns. We've used it for a long time and find it by far to be the best. We buy it by the case.
We wash, leaving the soap in. Put the whitener (it's purple) in. Put it on librally but make sure you continue to work it in until it isn't very purple anymore. We let it set for about 15 or 20 minutes before we wash it out. It's amazing. We've shown totally white cows and it really helps. The more you use it the more the stains come out. Good luck!

Tried almost everything including OxyClean. Way too harsh on their skin and hair. And it doesn't take out the stains.

Sometimes the Smokeys are just that way, with a little extra color.  They sure do save $$ on paint and dye tho.

Try Mrs. Stuard's Bluing (spelling?). You can get it at Walmart. It's in a little blue bottle. In the dish washing  cleaning area.  It has a little old woman's face on it. It worked great on those stains! Take a five gallon bucket and put a little in the bottom. Fill it with water then, scrub the area with it. After a couple washings the area will look great!

One of our friends is a hair dresser and she also had some cattle at Agribition in November. She had a white Shorthorn heifer with some stains on it, and she used a shampoo called Clairol Shimmer Lights Professional. She said it was designed for use by professional Hair dressers and was  different from the Shimmer Lights sold in your local drug store. A Charolais breeder was washing beside her, noticed how white it got her animal and asked what she was using. By the time the show was over, she had purchased every bottle, from every hair shop in town. It is not cheap. I got a bpttle from her and it cost $30. It certainly did take much of the stain out though, and is probably as good as anything else I have ever used.

There is a guy that sells really good shampoo off of the oklahomashowpigs.com site. Look under the classifieds and search for s.r.s soap. I used it on my shorthorn cattle my senior year and it really worked well. He sells it for use on show hogs, but I got some to try and out and I thought it worked wonderful.

Soak with WD-40, wash out with regular soap, then cover spots with the purple shampoo, rub it in and leave set for about an hour and then rinse out and dry.

I tried during stock show to find it at the Walmart's in Denver and they didn't have it. Any other suggestions where they might sell it?

the ole "bottle blond" ingredient  was peroxide...not sure what % and concentration for cow hair...and too much will probally give it a yellowish tint after the sun hits it real good....so rinse rinse rinse.....alos maybe a concentration % of amonia and water...maybe 25%...again....rinse rinse rinse...its not going to just "dissaper" with one application of "anything"...might take a coupe days to work it out.....good luck...jbarl

There is an equine product that works great to pretreate manure stains before washing. Cowboy Magic. Spray it on, work it in, then wash with the "purple" Clairol Shimmer Lights shampoo. It really cuts the stains out. With regular use, they disappear.
This is sold in any tack, or on line supply store. Valley Vet, Country SupplyTack, etc...........
Good luck!! Been there!

My brother said he got it from Scottsdale Supply. So try them.
