So we had a heifer calf out of a first time heifer. She was a big calf...too big but she's here. Cow had trouble getting up at first but gets up now still doesn't move perfectly occasionally falls....definitely some nerve damage. But the calf is strong but can't seem to stand by itself. We can stand it up n we got it to nurse. But it seems it rear left pastern is tight or contracted n it can't control it real well. There might be more damage than I know. Any advice? For either?

Was this a backwards pull? If so and you did damage to the calf it may need a sling or a wrap on it's pastern to give it support. Or it may just take some time to heal and maybe some banamine/flunixin will help with the swelling. With that hard of a pull there can be nerve damage to the calf too from the pressure and pulling. Unfortunately it's a bad deal no matter how you look at it. Good luck.
