Hi there!  New here!  My son is showing his first steer this year.  Our local show is slick shear for steers.  I know that is a sensitive issue here and don't want to start a debate.  Just want some help on what to do with his hair prior to entering the show ring.  We of course have been washing, rinsing and brushing at home..... Thanks!

We have found we are better off not washing/rinsing much after they are slicked.  They start scaling too easy.  If you do get scaling, skin conditioners like Mane and Tail help, as does vinegar.

There's no hair left to do anything with.  We'll usually oil them down with a little final touch before going in to the ring.

However, u do need to make sure that the show u r going to allows oils to be present on the calves. at the major shows an official will wipe ur calf with a paper towel to see if any oils r on him and if there is some u cant show.
Just keep that in mind
