we always put iodine on the hoof after we trim. I understand what you're saying but I believe I'd soak it & give it the time. Hopefuly it will be better by fair. Make sure he's not standing on cement & is in dry bedding too.

Sorry to say there is no quick fix for a sole bruise - think about a bruise you get when you bash yourself - it basically takes it's good time to go away and there is very little you can do to make it less painful.  I think show trims are overrated, esp for the fair, for reasons just like this. Keep soaking and keep your fingers crossed...good luck!

ba,
a bruised is collection of blood under or in the tissues. It takes time for that to be reabsorbed into the blood stream. Soaking in warm water will increase circulation and improve the reabsorbtion but only to a point. Definitely keep up with the bantimine if the vet said. It is humane and will make your heifer comfortable. Make sure her pen is clear of debre and is clean and dry. You never know, by show time she may be back in form.

horse folks put rubber boots on sore footed horses. do they make those for cattle?

I have seen some cows in high top sneakers, but I think they were a ball team ;D

Actually they do make boots for cows but the issue is that most cows won't pick up their feet on command so the boot is put on while on the table. OH B made a couple of good points - re clean pen etc - if you have a think rubber mat that might be a good thing to put in her pen - and finally if she is not improving I would call the vet out again - what looks like a bruise can be an abscess, and opening it up relieves the pressure and takes away the pain...

We found an abcess on top of the toe down from the hair at the hoof.
Been soaking in Esalts in bucket. I Think buysoaking it brought up where
we could find the spot and get it draining and will continue to soak for a few
days.

I acutally had a vet put one on a cow that had a pretty bad split in her hoof. I was shocked when the young lady jumped out of the truck. She was about 6' 3" and put my cow in the chute. Then she procede to walk up behind her picked up her rear leg and pulled it straight out  and put it between her legs. I was pretty impressed. She held on the cow jerked for a bit, but the young lady got it done.
If there is an abcess you may want to check with your vet on an antibiotic so it does not go systemic. That can get you into lots of problems. Definitely follow up with your vet!

she had been on antibiotics  since last week between the vet  and our selves.Vet came by at my request
to take a lookand didn't figure he would find any thing but hit pay dirt on finding the problem. vet got it
opened up where it would drain.I guess being a pain payed off.this time. They know when I call on things the problem has gone south.
