We have a bigger shorthorn cow that needs to be downsized a bit. She had a Tuscaloosa bull calf that is like a horse and came out over 100 pounds! She is very outcross, CYT Moonstone x CF Hero (no Trump). It doesnt matter to me if we breed her shorthorn or clubby, anyone have suggestions? I'll try to get a picture on here later

Well if you wanna downsize I would go with JPJ. For Shorthorns I would probly go with CF Phoenix, NPS Durango, or SULL The Da Vinci Code.  Other then that i would probly breed her to a club calf bull hoping to hit one out of the park.

I would recommend HC FL Touchdown 123T to downsize a bigger framed female. He has consistently done this for us, and his calves get thick and still have pretty good performance. Touchdown is doing everything we had hoped he would do. We recently ultrasounded his first crop of bulls and they were above average for both rib eye area and IMF... which is pretty unique. Usually the higher the REA the lower the IMF. 8 Touchdown bulls averaged 13.82 sq inches REA adjusted to 12 months of age. They indexed 104.8 for IMF on a high roughage ration. Touchdown daughters are thick and moderate framed and the oldest 2 have now calved and have beautiful udders.

His offspring are moderate framed with a pile of body... and very sound structured.

A clubby suggestion would be Eye Candy.  Have REALLY liked Eye Candy/Shorthorn crosses I have seen

Thanks for the comments!

Does anyone think the red and white bull "Bud" would work? Or maybe even Man Among Boys?

The Bates/ DV deals at Huston's have always been atop my list of likes-- year end year out...

My only concern with going with a clubby bull on the cow is the birthweight. Since she is at least 50% of the input for birthweight and you are concerned about a calf over 100 lbs., it may be better to keep it purebred. I guess it just depends on what your priorities are. If your looking for a fancy calf while downsizing and keeping it shorthorn, you may try ALM Chiller.

When I said downsize, i meant moderate framed not low birthweight, she is a bigger framed cow and that bull calf is the same way. Everyone is now looking for moderate cattle in the show ring and I think, if bred to the right moderate bull, that she could have a good calf. Sorry for that confusion. Im not that worried about bw because she easily had her last calf.
