I have been volunteered to do the beef cattle talk/demonstration at our local "Kids on the Farm" day.  The kids will be 4th graders.  I will have a cow & calf there.  I need some ideas of other things to show them and talk about.  The lady that did it last year brought her cattle plus some other items made from cattle by products (baseball glove, etc.)  I thought her ideas were good and may go that route, but wondered if anyone had other ideas or resources I could use.  I only have to entertain them for about 10-15 minutes. Thanks

Check out some Ag in the Classroom lessons. Oklahoma has a strong program, but so do other states from what I hear. Here is the link to the Oklahoma program... http://www.clover.okstate.edu/fourh/aitc/

You could take a pan of feed and water. Show them the parts of feed, let them know that the corn cattle eat isn't what we eat, tell them what else can be made from the things cattle eat. Show them how much water a cow needs each day, tell them how you keep their water supply clean- sort of go the route that you love and care for your cattle, maybe?
