I've got a eyes on the money steer weighing 1,000 LBS. Our terminal show is in 75 days  and would love to get him to 1200-1250. Were feeding him 9 feed and 2.5 cracked corn twice a day with 8oz of glu-coat. Were stuck at only gaining 2.5 lbs/day we need to be higher than that. Any suggestions or thoughts is much appreciated.

Try feeding him 7 pounds of grain 2 pounds of corn, 3 times a day and add the glu-coat on the first and last feeding. If you can feed at 5am, noon, and 7 pm each day. You might also try feeding a forage hay (3way oats, wheat, and barley) to get some more calories into him.

Right now it is taking 9.2 pounds of feed to gain a pound, if the calf can handle the 4 pound extra he would be getting by feeding 3 times a day you should get closer to 3 pounds a day. You may want to start with 6 and 2 and work him up to 7 and 2 over a week or so to keep him right, I would also add some probios to his feed when changing his schedule.

One more question is your feed a finisher or a grower/developer?

Is there any way you could get steam flaked grains instead of the cracked? I agree on the forage hay, if you could find some that has been made into balage then use it, the sugars are more available as they have already started breaking down, which again means more calories. IMHO this is one of the easiest ways to get those extra calories in them. When you weigh in is their a weigh back? If not there are a few ways to get him to the weight you want if you don't have to keep it on him.
