So we are at 48 hours after lute on our sync and only 1 standing heat.  Getting a little nervous that 50 some odd cows are not showing me any heats!!!!!!

I set up 48 cows just over a month ago, and I had a pile of cows in standing heat at 55-60 hours which in my case was almost midnight. Most of them were still in heat in the morning, but a few showed no signs the next morning. It may be good to do a late night check, just to see if there is any action. I find that some will be more active at night, especially if it is very hot in the daytime.

I am a little spooked the other way. We implanted embryos in 14 and AI bred 34. So far, I have only seen 5 in heat. and we are at day 23 . I am not sure if my luck could be that good. In regards to the recips, I always seem to lose more at 40 + days than I do at the first cycle, but so far, we have implanted 32 embryos and I have only seen 5 return and some of these are now passed the 60 days. I don't put a clean up bull out with recips for at least 45 days so I don't have to wonder  if a recip has an ET calf or her natural calf.

OK, so 10 standing this morning @ 530-700am.  Checking again in 2 to 3 hours.  Still uneasy about heats.  Nice cool morning and evening thought they would be hotter than fire.  Guess gonna time breed a bunch tonight at 72 hours.

they can and will go up to a week after luting them. Some may also have silent heats.

What synch programs are you guys using?  I seem to get pretty good results with the timed AI,  7 day Co-synch + CIDR program  (GnRh with CIDR, PG shot, TAI 52 hrs after PG).

Tried some sexed Capiche semen this year - will have to see how that goes.

What % do you get with your protocol? 52 hours TAI post pulling cidrs is earlier than I have ever heard of? Just wondering if 52 hours is better.
I cidred 26 head on a thurs evening and pulled cidrs on the following thursday, shot with Lute or Estrumate. bred 18 by Monday morning, had 4 non responders which I waited another 8 days & shot another shot of Estrumate, still no response by the following Wed. so I let those 4 out with the bull. Held 4 cows over a week past standing heat & put in embryos. So final tally was 22 out of 26 head that we put an embryo in or AIed.
Of the 4 non responders, 3 were first calf heifers that may not have been cycling b4 I started & I think that we may have missed the 4th cow. She's an older EXTdaughter.

Hi CAB,
I've been getting probably 60-70% conception on this program.  Last year I set up 10 for embryo's, tech said 2 weren't good (late developing heifers that are gone now - don't think I can blame the prg for those 2, actually all 3 of my heifers missed, so I wouldn't try them again this way - I do catch well grown cycling heifers on AI with this prg though), we put 8 embryo's in, ended up with 6 pregnancies and 5 live calves (unfortunately lost one that calved several weeks early).  So 75% catch on those embryo's.  The previous year I did 20 timed AI and got 12 caught, but I think I was trying to breed some cows I shouldn't have, and too early at around 60 days post partum.  Better to wait closer to 90.  I'm sure people out there do better than me, I'd like to watch them for heat and breed off that but I'm not around to watch them.  I think I could do better if my cows were in better shape and if my mineral program was better - which I'm working on.

Just to be clear there is another shot of GnRH when you AI, or some do a shot the day before, gets them to release the egg if they haven't already.  So Day0: GnRH + CIDR, Day7 PG +CIDR out, Day9 breed and GnRH.

DRB, I didn't know that you were working with virgin heifers. The TAI protocol for virgin heifers is post pulling cidr 54 hours + or - 2 hours.
I would have to question giving a shot of GnRH 1 day ahead of breeding. You can & it has been the original protocol to shoot a shot of PG 1 day ahead of pulling the cidr, but the shot of GnRH should be given @ the time of insemination to make the egg drop to be fertilized.
60 days post partum should be more than long enough to get busy rebreeding cows & would be kind of the norm or rule of thumb. 90 days post partum would actually move your cows backwards on the calendar by approximately 10 days per year.
Sounds like you are having success in what you have been doing. I hope that you don't think that I am being too critical, Just needed to double ck your protocol and hope that it helps you and others. Good breeding season to all.
