Can you 50K embryos? If so what does it do to their viability for pregnancy?
I don't know. I know people use genetic defect tests on embryos. I don't know if anyone is using a 50K test on embryos or not. The small quantity of DNA would be an issue that would need to be carefully dealt with.

How was feed efficiency measured?

With pinpointer or similar device?
Feed intake data will be included in the index come December. The intake data was collected using GrowSafe systems, Calen Gates, and similar systems.

Margin is more important than quality.

One can pay too much for quality.
knabe,
The margins for prime are larger than the margins for select. Beef quality grade is a major driver of margin. In fact, some years you remain profitable with prime beef but are in the red with select. I'm apologize if that wasn't clear in the post. If you ever get the chance, you should really listen to Scott Brown's presentations.

I will. I am always intrigued by two operators in my area.  One always buys the "best", the other is known locally to buy the worst. He buys bulls that others paid steep money for. He has good health practices.  He has graduated from a pot load to multi pot.  The buy the best guy is still spinning his wheels cause he always buys the best of everything. Still stuck on just over a pot load. Without seeing tax returns, it's not clear to me to always buy the best.  I know the "best" have the better premium, but they have more cost, especially if buying bulls from the top 100.  I've seen the "better" bulls have similar calf crop in weights.  Sure the ones that will have better premiums are the same weight, but those cows were a heck of a lot cheaper, especially if they were two or three in ones.
