We started calving in earnest on Feb 15th. It's been going really well. So far we have 18 heifer calves and 5 bull calves. Plus our son got his first calf last night and had a WAF Zorzal 321U bull calf. 92 lbs unassisted. The calves are a little heavier this year (due to the cold?) but the cows are calving super fast, the calves are standing up within minutes and are sucking just like that. I hope it keeps up like this! At this time they still have a lot of cuteness factor so I thought I'd share a few.  The first two are heifers  sired by our shorthorn bull. The 3rd is a heifer calf out of our black angus bull.

This is the picture of my son's cow/ calf pair. It's his first purchase. He is still thinking about breeding her to Cole Creek Cedar Ridge.

That is a fine start.  Congrats to your son.

The calves are really starting to grow now. We are very pleased with our shorthorn and our black angus herd sire. Here are a few pictures from this morning. Once again the tempurature took a dive so a few have a bit of frost around there nose. These are some of the shorthorn cross calves. The first one is a potential 4-H steer. The black one is a heifer calf out of the cow in my avatar. Pretty excited about this one. As you can see the calves have nice wide, strong tops to them. The fourth pic is a steer calf my son is watching. He took his 1/2 brother as a 4-H project last year.

Here are some from the black angus bull. The first on is a steer out of a 3 year old cow. The second is one of my favourite heifer calves from this bull. The only problem is I really don't care for the cow. She looks good but she performance is average. So we'll see how this heifer turns out.The next two pics are a cow/calf pair. The cow was my sons 4-H Continuation project from last year. He chose to breed it to the angus bull and got a nice 95 lb steer calf out of her. He's hoping it will be a 4-H steer next year.

Love the pair, but i would subjest to you using SAV Cinch, got one heck of a heifer out of him sure wish he would of had semen froze a little quicker that he did. We would have bred a pile of cows to him. If you would like to see a picture i could possible get one over the weekend.

He would have to be happy with that calf. A lot of bone in him (thumbsup) . A great looking bunch of calves. All you need now is spring and watch them jump away.

Any blue babies?? We got a couple really good steers but no blue heifers so far this year?

We have one fancy coloured heifer (black, white, blue, spotted, and frosted ) and the one black heifer with a bit of frosting on the face.  (thumbsup)  Although, today we have a lot of "blue" calves because of the lovely snow storm we are in right now. *sigh*  The last few weeks of winter are always the hardest to get through!  :-\
