This is our new calving ease AI Sire Prospect.
He is sired by Carpe Diem, and his dam is a Northern Gun (Northern Improvement) first calf heifer.
He was bred by Went Blacks (dam purchased in Priority One Sale, January 2010).
He is a 73 lb actual birthweight, unassisted.  Polled & goggles on both eyes.
We plan on taking him to Denver on display as we feel he needs to be seen.

I think this bull is the real deal! He not only offers calving ease, but he also offers structural soundness, and an outcross pedigree to many clubby programs.( He is a Carpe Diem X Northern Improvement) Pretty Snazzy was my favorite bull displayed in Denver this year. He is soooo complete and he is for real.... not just fluff and hair... but he has a pretty good hair coat as well. I understand that a couple college judging team coaches picked him as the best bull in the Denver yards display bulls. I think he offers so much to the clubby industry. Here is a chance to use a low birthweight bull who will add correctness and not sacrifice stoutness. A bull like this could turn the clubby industry in a very positive direction.

TH status please.  Thanks
His TH status is not known yet. The tests have been sent away and I have not yet received the results. As soon as I get the results I will post them on SteerPlanet. His status will also be posted in the ads that we will be putting in The Show Circuit this spring. Thanks for your interest.

Ty-D as I was reading your reply, I thought about some of the test results that have come back negative only to have TH afflicted calves born the next spring. Have you or any of the others promoting a bull thought about getting 2 test results from 2 different places? Just curious and not wanting PPL to have to try to make things right on a mistake that was not their fault. Most testing facilities will have a clause to protect themselves from any ramifications.

CAB - he doesn't need two different places (although he certainly could if he wanted) - he needs to make sure that both the Improver and Outcast mutations are tested for - Agrigenomics now does this routinely. If you are referring to the JPJ son who tested TH clean (for the Improver deletion) but down the road sired TH calves he had the Outcast deletion. At the time the Outcast deletion was tested for only if the pedigree indicated it should be (now it is routinely tested) - the pedigree on this pedigree did not indicate any reason to test for that deletion - apparently his pedigree is inaccurate - not sure if he was ever parentally verified or whatever happened

We will have every bull prospect tested twice after the deal with Ivy League.  They ran both tests but still had a clerical error with reported him to us as being clean.  So for safety's sake we will test twice, at different locations.  We also know of others this has happened to.

I wasn't referring to any bull in specific, was just trying to help anyone avoid the losses and anguish when something like this occurs. PPL put alot of money work & dreams into a promotional bull. Anything to avoid troubles down the road could prove to be prudent IMO. A double test would be a small cost to be sure.

Ty-D have you decided where and when you'll have him collected? He is making the top five list and I would like to get a look @ your bull if he is in the area. Congrats on a good looking bull prospect.

Thank you for your interest and you are certainly welcome to go view him at stud if you like. He is currently at the Genex stud at Mitchell, S. Dakota. They are actually going to try him tomorrow just to see if there is anything and to see where he is at. He certainly measures up well, he was 30 centimeters on November 8th. He is probably closing in on the 35-36 mark now. I will keep you all posted on his progress.

Ty-D, Nice bull, I've heard good things about him since Denver.  I like seeing Northern Gun in the cow's pedigree.  Northern Gun is out of a very good  cow family and was raised by SP's very own, FREDDY.

Pictured below is Ruby our Irish Whiskey X Opal(Sib to Northern Gun).
