Black angus has been there, done that many many years ago.  Several years ago, it was the big thing at "exotic" sales to have these defective calves/cows.  They would bring pretty decent money.

Not sure if everyone knows this, but red angus derived from black angus in the 50's. So more than likely, any black angus defect will eventually show up in the reds.  Since the 50"s, the reds have had their own genetics but there are "black red carriers", which means they are black in color but carry a red gene, so if bred to a red bull, they have a 50-50 chance of having a red calf.  From there it gets complicated from the registration stand point, but anyway....

Not sure of the abortion rate on these DD affected calves, but carriers are now identified and noted on papers.

On the RA website they have a list. It looks like a couple were tested for th......they came up clean.

Looks like 20 or so RA dd carriers going back about 5 generations to black angus.
