Hi Everyone -

Just surfing around tonight, found this forum, thought I'd sign up... and post an introduction and some pictures..

I'm from the east coast of Canada... Attached to Maine.. not sure if theres any folks from the 'great north' on hear, but say hi if you are. We have a small 20 cow/calf herd.. mostly pure Limo's even though they aren't registered. We started out with a mixed commercial herd and 2 pures.. haha now they've kinda all turned out to be pure. I do show, a bit. Just local 4-H.. didn't have the time this past year do to being away at college, but hoping for my last year this year I'll give it a go again and show the calves and a yearling probably. We only have about 100 acres of land, but also have a woodlot and all that fun stuff. And the classic canadian maple sugar camp.. so that's our spring time activity. Our cattle are in a tie stall barn during the winter as we dont have a run in that can fit all the cows during the winter, so that's why some of my cows have collars lol. Anyway, took some of these tonight. These are Feb-Apr calves in the pictures.. some from May June.. They just got turned out onto an aftergrass field of clover so that's why theres some messy backsides.. hope you don't mind. They'll probably be coming in for weaning at the end of October so. Let me know what you think.

Editted to add: I guess kid is the wrong word to use haha, as I'm an 'adult' now. I run a graphic design/photography business part time and I'm an autobody tech by day.. ha just to clear that up. sorry.

Cow/Calf 1 - This guy actually got stuck in a tree about 3 weeks back.. yup a tree.. playing around in the lower field where they have trees for shelter.. got stuck between 2 grees growing out of the same root spot.. got stuck right at his hips.. haha good ol Limo's and big back ends..

Cow/Calf 2 - The cow is the daughter of one of our original cows from about 18 years back now..

The whole herd.. well as much as would fit in the shot..

Our oldest cow we have... I think she's 13 now? She was the first daughter of another one of our originals.. Best calves out of that line. We've kept a lot of her daughters.

One of the Limi X's we have.. her mother has charloais (sp?) blood in her..

These are old.. but this was my bull calf I showed last summer.. we did okay, he was a March baby though, these were taken in August of 07.. He was fabulous during showmanship classes, but just wasn't developped enough for the bull classes.

Welcome to the planet!  You look to have a beautiful herd of limi's.  Gotta laugh, I had a collar just like those on my 4-H steer many years ago, made it easier to catch him lol.  Now my donkey Bidonkidonk wears old Petie's collar.

So is your barn like an old dairy barn?  Just curious

Welcome to the Planet.  Very nice set of cows. I really like the Char X cow.  That's pretty country up there.

And hey to Worthabit.  My wife and I spent a few days in PEI last Summer.  All the Canola in bloom was spectacular.  I was amazed how much the countryside, and even the architecture reminded me of eastern Kansas.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, and the comments about the cows. By the way, they're all grass fed... no feed for those babies. .. haha mostly cause we can't afford it right now so saving up for over the winter.

Ha, you can't even see our 'fence' in these shots... it's temporary, so it's just one strand of wire.. haha but yea I guess the power lines do look like they should be the fence haha..

(welcome) Hi there! I am probably the closest member to you as I am in PEI! You will find this site very interesting and learn lots. Just where are you located?

Good to hear theres a local on here! :) I'm from just outside Moncton, if you were headed to Miramichi through Moncton, then you'd probably drive right past. :)

That's the best way to explain it I guess.. except we dont have the high stantials that lock in around there neck.. it's pretty much just a pipe down through the barn, with sides for each stall, and then in the center there is a chain and bull snap.. pretty simple. And we have 3 birthing pens that we cycle them through in the spring and then we have rings along the walls for temporary calf hook ups. :)

Sorry if I missed anyone. :p And thanks again everyone. ha I didn't show any pictures of our current bull.. as he's not my favorite we've ever had.. bad conformation but his calves aren't bad... We don't AI so, but it's getting harder and harder to find pure Limi bulls up here. And our breeder we usually get them from just switched to Limi X Simmental soo.. no luck ha.
