In about 3 weeks I will be getting my steer and I was wondering what I should start doing with him (washing, halterbreaking, combing etc.) I'd like to be jackpotting him around mid-February and I was wondering if you have any tips or advice about what I should be doing now to get him ready for spring.

Thank you so much!

What size / age steer are you getting?  If like here you are buying a fall feeder (400 - 600 pounds) then it will (should) already be halter broke,  and have been rinsed regularly with a good start on the hair. Then, search this forum to learn all you can about feeding, daily hair care, clipping/fitting, etc.

I agree, something you could do is find out what the breeder or previous owner was doing, and not stop, keep that pattern going as long as its good daily hair care....which it should be.  If it isnt halter broke, a good start would be leading it to water when its thirsty, and leaving them tied longer than when u just work the hair.
