Here's a straight Hereford calf we had born here. I really like how he looks, and think he might be the one for 4H next year. He was born Mar 2 with a BW of 130 lbs, unassisted. His mama is one of our best producing cows.

Really solid calf. Out of one of your best cows...he should turn out great and will probably make a nice 4-H project.  Good luck with him.

Who is the sire? I have a Hereford cow due any day and am looking for good Hereford bull options. Like the calfs stout look. 130 lbs. would make me nervous, most everything we have is sub 100 lbs at birth. I know climate can play a role in that and I am a few miles further south of you (Texas).

Sire is a bull we own, http://abri.une.edu.au/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=2021292A&2=2420&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&6=59585A232323202E21&9=50525127 . He's still registered under the breeder's name I see....

The calf is very stout, BW is high, about 35 lbs higher than what our avg BW tends to be. But his mama likes to drop a big calf on the ground.

I don't know anything about herefords at all. But in this case I don't think you need to, thats a good county fair calf.
