in alva oklahoma, they housed german officers during the war.  for a time, there was a reunion after the war where the ex prisoners would come back and visit with the guards and other staff that housed them.  i think one of the lookout towers still stands.  i think the area became the fairgrounds and airport.

the solution for lack of appreciation of sacrifice will be experiencing it for one's self, or worse, our kids.

it's unclear to me how the desire for a caliphate and sharia law worldwide which is desired by a majority of muslims world wide has ANY compatibility with american values.

i recommend everyone read the koran.

I visited the American WWII cemetary shown above in the Netherlands this past summer.   Awe inspiring.   The Dutch people that were also visiting there knew they were in the presence of a busload of Americans and were very polite, friendly and appreciative.  What also amazed me is that there were a group of Senior Citizens with a wheel barrow full of fresh flowers.  Graves there are randomly decorated every day.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
