Not the way you want to find your favorite calf. We got him out without any problem.

You are lucky Will. Worse than finding a calf is finding one of your herd bulls. I owned JJ Denim with Dr Freed and one day went out and found him with his head stuck in the fork of a tree. I had to cut 1/2 of the tree down with him standing there(very scary). Got him out and he died 2 days later.

WOW!  lucky you came across him for sure!  It's been maybe 10 years but I lost a calf in a similar situation.  He hung himself in the fork of a tree-  it was on a pond embankment so it looked like he just lost his footing and when he slipped, he wedged his neck down good in the fork.

That calf looks like a chunk too!

He is a chunk.  He had to be playing and jump through the tree, he was high center both his front and back feet were off the ground.  He kicked me twice when I was getting him out and my daughter thought it was the funniest thing.  I think he is going to be fine.  He acted really sore this morning but had nursed and was up running around.

I found a heifer with her head stuck in a tree one day.  The tree had a split in it that was wider at the bottom and narrowed at the top. She must have laid down next to it, then stood up with her head inside.  If she would have laid back down she would've been free.  It took four of us to get her out.  We ended up getting a halter on her and pulled the rope between her front and back legs and just kinda flipped her out! Then we had to catch her to get the halter off.  She did fine though... just had her first calf last month.

The FIRST time we used our new Stampede squeeze chute, I forgot to close one of the neck-access doors, and the next calf, a 300 lb heifer, squirted through and hip-locked.  Couldn't push her back- her ribs wouldn't let her go back; tried flipping her on her side and pulling her out like a big-hipped dystocia calf - no dice.
had to run next door and borrow the neighbor's Sawzall and cut the bars to get her out!

I'm pretty diligent about making sure that sucker is closed now!

We had a cow that we were putting a cidr I get stuck half way through the self catching chute/head gate.  She was very sore, ended up  getting an embryoabout three weeks later and has the calf at side, but has been a butt head to get caught ever since.    We had to take the head gate apart to get her out.
