Bleeding Purple Vs. Monopoly / Who is better?
« on: March 10, 2010, 08:39:48 AM »
Bleeding Purple is a bull I have never used.  He died young.  Did any of you have experience with both him and Monopoly and what did you think of the comparison of the two.  Their semen is about the same price now $100/straw.

While you are at it, has anyone have an opinion of The Headliner vs. Monopoly.  they are full brothers but it seems Monopoly is much more popular.  Why?

If Bleedin Purple were still alive, I think he would be hugely popular.  A friend of mine has used him quite a bit, and has sold some big $$ steers and heifers out of him. He makes them a little more "freaky" than Monopoly, and maybe doesnt always put that super soft middle in them as well as Monopoly, but he puts a ton of look, thickness, and hair in em.  Most all of the ones I've seen were pretty sound too.

I've heard a lot of good Bleedin Purple stories and a lot of people that would give gold for his semen. As for the headliner vs. Monopoly, phenotypically The Headliner is the better bull, he has more top and rear quater than monopoly did. Monopoly has more winners, but that may be due to his vast popularity and use.

We have a Simmi-Maine cow that had a Bleedin Purple heifer in 2006 and in 2009 had a Monopoly heifer.  It is scary how similar they are.  Even had white markings in some similar areas on their legs and belly.  The Monopoly heifer was definitely more hairy but both had their positive traits.  I would also say the Monopoly heifer has more of a brood cow look.  Just thought that was an interesting scenario.

Interesting.

Bleedin Purple heifer. A friend of mine bought her out of KY. Just a flat out power house of muscle and hair. neck could have been tighter. She calved a 110+ lb star power bull which he sold for decent money as a steer. Think he bred her to Tyson last year, haven't been over there in a while to check out his calves.

I believe I saw he died on 1/1/06.  I lost a high powered bull once to lightning as well and it hurts.  So many of the great animals have died by lightning strikes.   :(

monopoly is more popular than headliner b/c lautner owns him, and headliner has had a hard life, and made very little semen as a young bull due to being foundered

I would likely use Monopoly again before I would use Bleedin Purple, but I sure would have liked to have a chance to breed some different cows to Bleedin Purple to see how they wouldve clicked.

We had our first Headliner calf last nite...anxious to see how he stacks up with the Monopoly calves we had last year.

I have a cow I used Headliner on this year.  I chose him over Monopoly because the guy that breeds for us told me typically Headliner has smaller calves.  I've head stories about some BIG Monopoly calves!  I'm hoping all goes well!
