Hey guys I have an Irish Whiskey X Spin Doctor/Charolais cow that is super cool fronted big hipped and great haired but she needs a little more softness and depth of body to be a real good one. If you were breeding for females which one of these bulls would you use and why? Thanks.

Copyright is the only bull I've ever bought semen on and never got a calf.  But that was his first year out.

If you want something other than Legend, you might look at OCC Magnitude.  I've seen some good females out of him this year

Ill sure look at him Chambero! I'm probably going to run one of the monopoly clones at her just to see what she does with him she is fairly moderate and made right just needs to be softened up and think that should work. But if she wont cross clubby I'm switching to Angus/sim stuff on her and going to try and get some good females out of her. I hope everything is going well.

I'll second OCC Magnitude for adding some depth of body and rib shape - make dang good cattle too, never had any semen fertility issues either with hime... another choice might be Trifecta 714, have only seen the online video and pics of him but he sure looks good, can't wait to see some calves out him on the sales this fall.

We have been using OCC Magnitude for three years now and absolutely love his calves. We use him on all the heifers and have never had any problems. Magnitude consistently sires calves that are stout, thick, excellent depth of body, and have a great look. We just calved our first Magnitude daughter earlier this spring and she is raising an excellent calf. She is a moderate framed, belly dragin beauty with an absolutely perfect udder. We have another Magnitude x Who Made Who replacement heifer bred to Copyright that we are super excited about! The only problem we've had with Magnitude is we get too many bull calves and not enough heifers!!

We have 2 copyright heifer calves. One of them is exactly what you are looking for in a show heifer calf, she will make a great show heifer that will excel in the pasture when done being showed. She has power yet style with hair to burn. The second is the complete opposite. Not too powerful, not very much hair, but this calf is by far our most correct and longest/deepest bodied calf. Just giving you my experience with Copyright. I will continue to use him but only on heifers.

I had a bull calf out of a sunseeker/strictly business heifer this year and he was thick and extremely deep sided.  Not the most eye appealing.  Not a lot of hair and nor heavy boned but sold him as a clean up bull.  His moma showed really well for us so would have been interesting to see him if we could of got some hair on him.  He came 18 days early and weighed 65lbs.

Legend has alway, ALWAYS worked for us.  He'd be my vote.  I don't ever recall a cull out of him.

I would go with Magnitude. He has produced a lot nicer heifers than OCC Legend. You almost NEVER see a Legend heifer at a show. Not sure if its fertility issues (since every time we've used him it's been a bull calf) or just that they don't turn out, but I can't imagine you'd get a very feminine female out of him. But of course, we have always used him for purebred angus breedings so if you'd like to get a nice clubby heifer than Legend would be okay, I just question the feminine quality's you may get. But if you want the best of both worlds, go with Magnitude.

Good luck with the breeding  :)

The reality is there are a bunch of good Ohlde-type Angus bulls that can work.  We have a limited amount of Ohlde blood in our herd, but are getting pushed from the commercial side to use more and more of it.  We are about to sell every crossbred bull we have and replace them with Ohlde type Angus bulls, possibly some Jupiter sons, to use one our crossbred cows.

We currently own one - an Anchor son out of Griswold's OCC Primrose 932L cow (a Just Right daughter).  He has worked wonders on our crossbred cows and just makes beautiful daughters - that grow out to just about an ideal size for us.  So, we are about to dive in head first with these genetics.

To use on crossbred females, I'd recommend one of the purebred Angus from Ohlde/Griswold/Duff/Limestone.  To use on purebred females, you'd probably get a little more power from a bull like Copyright.

Chambero thats kinda what I was thinking and was wondering if I were to get a bull out of that mating I thought it might be a really good cross on my charolais females since it would be either legend/copyright back on an irish whiskey/charolais female. Thanks guys for the information I sure found some nice angus bulls through asking this. In saying that the best female I own to this day is a Legend X Carney Man/ Alias heifer. But in saying that she is a heifer and just ai'd her 2 weeks ago and waiting to watch for her next heat cycle or lack of one  (thumbsup)
