I think some are being hard on you. There is nothing "malnourished" about your heifer. She is some fat deposits around her tail head and some cover on her ribs and rear flank.Looks to me like  what you see is what you get as she is not highly fit or haired up. If you like her and the kids are having fun, keep her and breed her to a low birth weight angus bull and keep the kids involved in the process. Keep up the good work

OK, I think Mooch said it better than I ... for whatever reason she is somewhat small and small boned, I am not sure why, it may be what she is more than something that has been missing.... I agree she doesn't look like she has a low body conditioning score, she just looks small....

if you are going to be showing her some more..id get her feet trimmed...if not id probably turn her out and wait until she is 24 months old and then breed her to a calving ease angus...

Obviously you took her to a show, how did you do? What were the judge's comments? How did she compare to the other animals in the class?

She looks to be in good health and you can tell that young man takes good care of her. She does seem very small for her age.

she placed 4 or 5th in her class of 12. he won 3rd for showmanship. judge said she needed to be a little heavier in the front.

Man, a picture is worth a dozen words... I think that female is malnourished, her head really looks big for her body and her leg bones seem really small, I am afraid she probably has lost quite a bit of bone growth potential....  ...... I think see if you can sell her and start over with a new project, if you can sell her for 500 and find a decent 550-600 weaned and started  heifer you could try over... could you buy afford to buy a new heifer ?
yes, I can get him another heifer. She will not be sold.

What are you trying to produce with this heifer? Club calves, show stock?

We had hoped to get al clubby that could eventually be shown etc, etc.  But, if it is best to keep her with a angus then that is what we'll do.  As others have said, here in Florida we have smaller animals than in other parts of the Country. Thanks everyone, I appreciate all of your input. :)
