I have been playing with crossing some older genetics on newer genetics. The pictures are:
Fairview President 5C (Kenmar President 26a x Studers Trendsetter daughter)
Fairview Clipper (DMH Clippers Jubilee x Rosabell (Haumont breeding)

Thanks for the comments.  I live near Columbus, but the calves are on feed at A&T Cattle south of Hay Springs.

You've got quite a bit more snow than MN even! We finally got an inch and a half last night to give people their "white christmas"

Well, we jinxed the weather and now it's snowing.
I finally got to looking at the breeding on your young bulls. Both have neat pedigrees. Guess your"good start" is the result of a long effort!
I like 5C better at this point, but that's just me.
How did you come out with TH on your Clipper calf? If you bred a clean grandson of Clipper King it's a good demonstration. Valuable too, I bet.

Thanks for the comments Gary and Librarian.  I actually ended up with 2 bull calves from Clippers Jubilee.  The second one is a June and he looks like he could be quite good, so we will grow him out too.  Luckily for me, both of the Clipper calves are TH free!  I agree the the 5c calf is more complete, however the Clipper calf has more rib shape and volume.  It will be interesting to see how they both scan.

They look good John! Post a picture of the June born 14C calf when you get a chance. He has an interesting pedigree also.

(clapping) Really like the look of those calves. The head shapes are great and the rib shape, moderate looking. Very nice!

"Kenmar President 26A was known by the nickname Maxi- Brute and Don and Pat Stout did walk him as a herd sire for many years. It would be interesting to know if they still have semen from him. He was a son of Kinnaber Leader 9th and out of a very powerful Kenmar Mayflower dam. She was an incredible cow and she probably would be cloned by someone if she was alive today."  from JIT

Would JIT or anyone who saw this cow please give as complete as description as you have the patience to write down?

r.n. This was Double Brute at 14 months. How do his calves compare to those of 4508? What were you hoping to add?

And pretty tangentially, because I noticed 31Z on the Muridale site (looking for Slugg) and saw that 31Z has 2015 calves on the ground at Studers. (and Studers contributed to your 26A bull)
On the top 31Z goes way back to King Collynie.
How are the calves growing?

My primary goal for Double Brute was to reinforce what Frontline and 4508 are doing and strengthen the influence of his maternal grandam x4068690 who was also the dam of my Pioneer 108 bull. This years calves were all out of 4508 and Frontline daughters and I would say he is accomplishing those goals.

What is the best way to obtain the Maxi Brute influence? Is there a son that semen is available on? Does Marty have one. I know dad had 3 maxibrute  sons he bought from the Stouts.

I browsed some of these pedigrees, pretty impressive work. Are those heifer calves as consistent as their genetics suggest they should be? What is your next step for the calves who are up over 17%?

Medium Rare, the heifers will be bred to x4212784.They are consistent however I can pick out some suttle differences that tell me what cow they are out of.If there was a pen of a 100 instead of 7, I wouldn't even try to differentiate.

librarian, we are really pleased with how the Muridale Hero 31Z calves grow. This year we kept 9 Hero 31Z bull calves, they ave. 650 lbs at 205 days, while all the bulls in the pen ave. 638. They have lots of capacity. We have 3 daughters that will be calving this spring. Pictured is one of them.

Hello AJ.  JPS is John Sonderman of Fairview shorthorns in Columbus, NE.  I was able to get a little bit of 26a (maxi brute) semen.  I have the 5c bull at A&T and a bred heifer at home, that also looks pretty good.  I also flushed Maid of Promise 201 from Haumont's to 26a with the Cooksley's.  Hopefully those embryos go in next spring.

So far I like the calves and will continue to do a few selective matings to him.  It looks like he will take a little bit of frame out, but I want to see that bred heifer on her second calving before I make final judgement.  I do like the shape and muscle expression.  He will throw horned calves and on the wrong cow he throws spots, so that is his downside to me.
