Here is a photo of Lionheart in Denver when he was Reserve Senior Calf Champion and sold for $20,000.  I have also included a picture of his mother CEZ Dream Catcher and his granddam Nichols CEZ 81U.  The 81U cow was fairly popular in her day and produced some pretty good cattle I believe.  There are still a number of cattle around that trace back to 81U and her daughters.  I was never to fond of F Nichols Black Advantage the sire of CEZ Dream Catcher but that was strictly based on his picture and I never saw the bull himself and very few if any calves in person.  Few people would argue the influence of Lionheart's sire 600U on the breed.

I believe that Hart's in South Dakota probably used Lionheart as much or more than anyone.

I actually got to see a few decent Lionheart daughters back in the day. Not sure he'd be one I'd go back to now, but the genetics wouldn't be a bad thing to build on if they were in a pedigree somewhere. The 81U cow was pretty prominent and well promoted...a very productive and prolific female! Personally, I think the breed has come a long way since his day, and there are genetics available I'd choose ahead of Lionheart if you're looking for a Simmental bull to use. Speaking of the maternal grand sire, Black Advantage, I did have a really good Advantage daughter...he worked best on smaller framed, easy fleshing cows. Some of em could get a little hard doing, but the one cow I had was one of the better cows I've ever owned. She's retired now, but her influence is still in our herd and I hope to keep building on that cow family in our program.

Thanks for all the info and pictures.  I am not looking to use this bull, as I agree, the breed has come a long way since those photos.  I purchased a female this fall where Lionheart sired the mother of my heifer.  I had never heard of the bull, so I thought I would ask.

That should make a decent foundation to breed up from. 81U was no slouch for a cow family!
