I have a pair of 6 year old pb simmy baldy cows , both are probably a frame 6 with good overall epds. They are sired by a G&L Avalanche X Drake Elvira son , and out of a DS Black Zinger daughter . I have always just bull bred these two cows but im looking to A.I. them both this year , kinda looking for some ideas ? Im positive i want to use a purebred simmental bull on them with some hope of productive heifer calves . Any good ideas would be appreciated ! Thanks

I am getting some of the best calves I have had out of a TNT Ever ready son. I kept back 4 or 5 heifers out of his first calf crop and they all look like they are going to make great cows.

Trademark, Lucky man, Mo Better make some good females.  The Mo Betters out of your baldy cows will likely be baldies.  Also,  I like the Olies, just don't have any in production yet.

I appreciate the ideas , kinda looked at a couple of the bulls mentioned above . These sisters never miss on the baldy making , in fact the two calves in my profile pic are last years babies. I might be getting a little picky but im looking for a bull to kinda compliment the older pedigree of these cows . I wasnt still  playing in the sanbox when Drake Elvira , G&L Avalanche , and DS Black Zinger were populuar , but  i was plenty busy chasing things other than cattle !!! So im lookin for someone familiar with what "works" on these type ! Thanks

Okay, if the cow has enough body use Fortune 500.  He makes attractive, maternal females.  Also, Ellingson Black Perfector is the sire of my best females and many commercial bulls but he does add some frame.  If you could get some Preferred Beef that would work, too.  They go back to 600U that some say was the best female maker of all time in the Simmental breed.  These are older simmental genetics that have worked and still work for me.

Well Possum Trot , the baldy bull in my profile pic just happens to be a black perfector , which is what ive been breeding them both too. I guess in a way then i must be doing something right , going off of your advice ! What about using 600 U himself on these two ? Im pretty sure i can get ahold of a couple straws of him .

If you're wanting something that will be "hot" for the market, willie morris' new Fatt Butt bull is definately something to look at.  He himself is very old school in his breeding but very "new" in his look and those cows pedigrees definately are, could have something very neat on your hands.  Especially if you can pull some baldy heifers out of that mating.

We had a club king calf this January out of a cottonwood x preferred beef cow, and YUCK! Not impressed AT ALL! I will not use him again. Just one calf though...

Ive kinda always had the idea of using Fat But on them all along but im kinda dragging my feet . I have only seen one bull calf out of Fat Butt in person and sexed semen is no longer available except by auction . That is the only thing that wonders me because these two girls bred to my baldy perfector bull always make saleable bulls , ive honestly never banded a calf out of either of them . Absolutely love the heifer calves ive seen out of Fat Butt just not quite convinced on the bull calves yet . I really need to see more first !

Dream On or Ranch Hand.  I LOVE the Dream On females, especially on the "old" girls...    <rock>

Love your baldies, AltSimmy.  Going back with 600U would be line breeding and should make some great cows.  Another older simmy bull that I like on Perfector cows is 3C Full Figures.  He will down size and add volume and maternal.  Here is a photo of a Perfector X Full Figures cow that came for the Moser ranch in Kansas that I sold last year after making a lot of money off her progeny.  This cross makes great commercial bulls as well.  The 600u sired bull calves are not near as good based on my observations.

Well Possum Trot thank you sir ! I appreciate the compliment , i kinda push the envelopoe on making the baldys by breeding baldy cows to my baldy bull but so far its working pretty well for me with just one calf coming with a little too much white . Definitely like the cow in your picture , she has some power to her and thats a thing alot of todays simmys are lacking . Some would say shes not deep enough bodied for todays standards but id say she looks like one that would flat out work ! Ill look into that 3C Full Figures bull a little more .

I have to agree with Joker and want to add Lucky Break and MT to your list. Also like Momentum for his positives, but he might give you too much front and moderate too much. Those would be where I would go for the oldies but goodies theme. But Im only 19, so my idea of old might be a little warped.  (lol)
