So today I get home from work and check a bred heifer that is due to calve anytime by the way she looks. She has two feet sticking out with normal presentation. I think to myself "Cool. This is gonna be easy!". Big mistake! I keep waiting and there is absolutely no progress. Just a heifer getting worn out.
I get my cousin to give me a hand and we walk out the to the barn to get the heifer in the chute and sure enough there is a skunk standing between us and the bred heifer and he/she is not budging! I go to the house to get the .22 come back and have 5 misfires until I get the sucker. The whole time my cousin is just laughing at me! The smell was awful as you all can imagine. As soon as we get the heifer out of the pen I take a short cut with her through the barn to get to the holding pen that leads to the chute. Right when we get in the barn our resident barn cats start fighting. She got spooked and then knocks over our upright showbox, two shelving units and bent my nephew's prize showstick into a pretzel looking shape!
After many curse words we finally get her in the chute and get the calf out alive. Before I went in the calf was up and nursing. As soon as I got into the house my wife started carrying on about how bad I smelled.
I just keep thinking back to my initial thought....."Cool. This is gonna be easy!"
