? Opinion on the bull Grizzly ?

I was wondering what you think about the simmental Grizzly bull? IT says that he is a calving ease bull. Have any of you tryed using him on a first calf heifer? Do you guys know if there is any genetic relation between the grizzly bull and heatwave? Because I was hoping to breed one of our heatwave cows to Grizzly. If you have any pictures of calves out of him could you post them?

Rumour has it youve gotta watch what you use him on because they come rather thick and blocky . Ive heard it said on here and from people in my area , personally havent used him . Good lookin calves that ive seen out of him though .

I asked pretty much the same question a few months ago.  They said that he is not calving ease but the calves are good.  They come big and thick.

we used him last year had no troubles calving calf came probably 65 #'sa but i can see with heatwave genetics he may have a problem as mentioned they come a bit thicker, not terrible but defiantly a bull you watch closely. REAL DEAL calves im keeping mine as a replacement

I've used Grizzly on heifers for quite a few people no real complaints most of the calves are in the 70 to 80 lb range with some a little bit bigger, the one thing people need to remember is that the cow still contributes half of the genetics and Heatwave is going to give you some bigger birthweight
I've seen a lot of calves out of clubbie hfrs that were bred to todays best calving ease angus genetics and it's pretty amazing how good these calves can be. Remember Monopoly is half angus. Not saying Grizzly wont work but you can sleep a little better if she is bred to a bull like Lemar Dakota Gold or TC Aberdeen.
            Grizzly calves that I've seen are very impressive hair, bone and grow looks like the daughters will make good females.

Any suggestions on which kind of cows he works better on?

Does Grizzly add or take frame away?

Is he considered to be maternal bred or not.  Could his daughters be kept to make good replacements.

I have 2 grizzly females. One is 6, other is a bred hfr. The 6 year old is a great milking, very eye appealing cow with a lot of body and bone. She's my ideal frame size too, no dink but not a giant by any means. The bred hfr is equally as attractive but time will tell how her udder looks compared to the 6 yr old. The bred hfr may have a touch more hair at this point then did the mature cow. Both are out of broody simangus commercial females.

I've been using Grizzly on clubby bred females to get more maternal calves. I haven't ever had to pull one, and they aren't real big. But, most of them are pretty thick. I wouldn't use him on a heifer. But, I'm ultra conservative on what I breed heifers too.

I really like Grizzly calves. I've kept quite a few heifers out of him and sold a few show steers out of him.
