Back in the day, most Star-5's I saw were sired by Horned Hereford bulls. Judges would even show prejudice when evaluating the Star-5's at shows. If it was black, roan, yellow, or even solid red, it wouldn't stand a chance aginst Hereford or Fleckvieh-sired baldies.

Then again, I'm old.

thats true and there is still many old judges that dont like a gert x calf unless it is hereford marked and thats kinda crazy i think

wonder why? I am fromArkansas, not extreme South Texas. 95, can you explain in Texas terms for me why these Judges soooooooo prefer a Star-5 heifer with a motley or blaze face?

well because back when. . . in the day (before my time) the gert x hereford was the cross that handled the heat. and had the eye appeal to be a show calf. all in one along with maternal ability ect and all of the star 5s were hereford crossed and its just that some of the old fashoned judges believe those were the best versions of a star 5 and that they should all still be that way. . . even though that isnt exactly the case. but everybody knows you cant teach an old dog new tricks (talking about the judges) hope that kinda clafifies it
