This heifer is the rsult of the heifer pregnancy we offered for sale last winter.  I'm sure glad we didn't sell her then!!

Juli and Brad Nelson look to have a really deep set of calves this year and their doing a great job with them.  Check out the Club Calf Paradise website.

Lynn, If this heifer is even half as good as she looks in the picture, you have yourself a very good one. Of alll the heifers calves I have seen pictured in sale catalogs so far this fall, your heifer is one of the best I have seen. Congrats on raising such a good one!

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone.  Its a little bittersweet for me that we raised one this good just as our youngest daughter takes off for college and our oldest daughter enters the working world.  I've traveled thousands of  miles over the last several years looking for calves like this and, now that my daughters are moving on to the next phases of their lives, we've raised some real "poppers" right here at Oakbar this year.  Its not that we haven't raised some good ones in the past, but I feel this Bloodstone heifer and the Ali heifer we sold to the Weis family afew weeks ago are really something special.  We've all witnessed the success of the Weikert heifer and the Udell heifer- who are both 420 daughters.  I think these 3 420 daughters could be the beginning of a  maternal line that will gain a lot of notoriety in the future.  I was very tempted to keep her, but we wouldn't be able to do her justice as a show heifer with the conflicts in all of our schedules this next year.    Unless I''m missing something--Somebody is in for a fun ride with this girl.

She looks great overall! Looks like she will make a nice show heifer for someone! It also looks like she could give you a good Shorthorn calf, or a great clubby no matter how you breed her! Great Job!  <rock>

Nice heifer!  I didn't make it to the feeder calf show, but all I can say is that it took one whale of a heifer to beat her.  Anybody would be proud of a heifer like this.

She sure looks awesome.  I sure would be proud to own her.  I think I should get a bidding number and at least try to buy her.

Her registered name is Oakbar Dream Lady BS 2Y ET and she was born on March 1st.  She weighed 90 lbs at birth and is horned.  In fact, she was dehorned 13 days before the Feeder Calf Show at the Iowa State Fair, had been weaned just 5 weeks, and still was named the Reserve Champion Shorthorn.  We didn't take pictures of her that day because she hadnt really got her "bloom" back after the weaning and surgery and we were working with 11 head between the Maine and Feeder Calf shows.    She has changed dramatically since then and is really looking good and fresh now.  I've been impressed with her depth of rib, width across her hips, and the fullness of her lower quarter.  She is extrmely soft made and as sound as can be.  If I still had one of my daughters showing she'd certainly never leave our farm.  I hope I can work something out with her new owners to share in a flush or two down the road.

I would love to have a heifer like this to show in 4H! Just out of curiosity how much would a hiefer like this go for? Or if she wasn't in a sale how much would you sell her by private treaty??

I appreciate your nice comments, Christa!  I guess the bidders will determine what she's worth by next Monday evening when the sale concludes.  As of this morning, the bidders had determined she was worth $3500 with 8 days still to go.  Of course, we hope she will bring more by the time the sale ends on Labor Day, particularly with the largest crowd of people expected next weekend.  You're right--she will make a super show heifer, but her true worth may actually come later as a producing female.  I think she has a bright future in both areas!!
Thanks again for yor interest in our heifer!
