Last week in Denver marked the first show of my kids' final year showing.  I have twin boys that have time left but are young for their graduating class and will be off in college this August.

This one is a Monopoly X HooDoo steer.

I will share pictures of the other 2 steers when I get the chance.

This is the best one we have ever had.  We have high hopes for this little dude.

You don't have to PM!  Post it.  This is about the final year, not the steers!

We don't really know yet.  It is going to depend upon how he progresses.  Sept 1 State Fair is my guess, and we will keep going until we are done.  AkSarBen, KC, NAILE, Denver could all be options.

The safe bet is our County Fair in July, but it's no walk in the park.  We will know a lot by March 1st.

I'd enter him as far along as you can-he has the look of one you could show awhile-like the way hes made-just has that extra oomph that the Shorthorns dont have anymore in a very clean made package:Really sound straight lined-THICK-and heavy boned but hes so pretty you dont see it all at first glance and Im a sucker for a cool red one anytime O0

You read that one perfectly. He doesn't hit you real hard at first glance. You look at him and say OH, he's cute. Then you watch him move and you say Ya, no muscle if he moves like that. Then you get behind him and you say Oh My?!

KC or Denver is our goal. Maybe even Arizona.

Well, you wouldn't want to hire me.  You might want to hire my kid, but trust me...you don't want to hire me.

Looks great. If he gets big enough, he's gonna be tough.

NWSS might be a bit harder this year, but I think that's when he's gonna hit is stride big time.

The trick with this one is getting him to look "mature". Everyone thinks he weighs 700 pounds because he looks like that. He weighs over 900 right now.

Curious about NWSS being harder this year - can you elaborate ?

If it's a maturity issue, you'll be alright. He'll get fat and you just have to not be afraid to clip his top hard and leave a little hair up high on his neck. I'm sure you don't need steer advice from a Shorthorn heifer guy though haha.

As far as NWSS being tougher this year, quite a few guy I know in Texas are talking about going there instead of Ft Worth after their displeasure with the judge this year. He's got a two year contract.

I think you are right about Denver being tougher, but I really only see it at the very top end.  It really doesn't effect us one way or another.  Yes we like this steer, and we appreciate the quality.  However, it is way too early to even start thinking this calf has anything close to a chance of even making the sale in Denver.  He is good, but I have no idea if he is THAT good.
