Hi DL. Can't seem to Download on my computer.

I had to google Perth Bull Sale and it took quite awhile to download.  The Angus and Shorthorn sale catalog is 276 pages. It is interesting to see so much Canadian and US bloodlines in both the Angus and Shorthorns. There are 3 Shorthorn bulls that I bred, which resulted from embryos I have sent over there. Lots of others from sires and dams that were from Canadian embryos as well. There are also some bulls that were bred by okotoks, of SP fame. Interesting as well is the upset price on the Angus bulls, which is equivalent to $3000. One of my dreams, when I was a kid was to attend the Perth Bull Sale. Haven't got there yet!!  I think the Feb 2011 Perth sale was the last sale to be held at the original Perth sale facility. The sale started in the mid 1800s and ran at this location until last year. It is now held in Sterling, but it is still known as the Perth Bull Sale. They have 3 sales each year, February, May and October. My grandfather was born a few miles from Perth and he went back to buy a bull in the 1920s after immigrating first to the US in 1884 and then to our farm in Canada in 1903.

I am always amazed at what commercial producers will pay for bulls in this sale. Two years ago, two bulls that were from embryos I sold to a Scottish breeder sold for 17000 guineas and 5800 guineas. which was equivalent to about $35,000 and $11,800 at the time. Both sold to commercial cattle producers. I would have been very happy with either of these prices, but the seller was quite disappointed that one only sold for $11,800 and said that he would have sold for much more if he had more frame. The bull that sold for $35,000 was horned and sired by Wolf Willow Major Leroy. The other bull was sired by Saskvalley Pioneer and was out of Leroy's dam, Prairie Lane Sparkle 1K. I saw both these bulls when I was in Scotland, and I felt the Pioneer bull would have been the most popular of the two bulls here in N America. He was more moderate framed but very thick and well muscled. The Leroy son was a meat wagon but a bit bigger framed which surprised me as the Leroy's usually are the more moderate.
