Once again, it's that time of year, when the mailbox fills up with catalogs.  Big, fancy catalogs full of pictures of dams, granddams, maternal sisters, etc., but no pictures of the actual cattle they are selling.  DON'T WASTE YOUR POSTAGE SENDING ME A CATALOG WITHOUT PICTURES OF THE CATTLE THAT ARE FOR SALE!!!  Maybe Sears should adopt this strategy.  Here's a picture of the plant in China that made your hammer.  Here's the girl in Korea that sewed your shoes together.

I guess I'm odd because I want to see the cow.  If she's good then I'll take a look at the heifer.  I get really nervous when someone starts trying to sell me a heifer and doesn't seem to have the cow around to look at.  Udder quality, structure etc. is as important in the cow as seeing a 6 month old heifer.

Birthweights to me on females is very important. Lots of sale catalogs give you color, date of birth,  sire and dam but no BWT. Now if you are lucky you can find them if they are registered with an association but if you know the date of birth most likely you know what you sent in for BW.

I hate that too. Are they cattle not good enough to picture?

Probably more like they already have a good picture of the mother, why pay for a picture of the offspring that they will never use again.  Irritates me too, I would like to see both pictures

Hey Elbee--I thought at your age maybe you'd be more interested in the mothers rather than the daughters---of course I mean the cows!!!  Ha, HA!!

if you are talking about Alan Sears,  you better quit.  A marketiing genious, can sell alot of stuff. I have worked with him for a lot of years and is a good guy to have on your side. Every animal is good in it own right, dosent have to be in a picture all the time.  Any buddy ever heard of momma cows!!!!!!!!!!

Good one!  Have you ever noticed that Shorty folks just have that "special brand of homor"?

I hate that to. And when there is the calf pic i also want to see the mama cow to see how good the calf will be. They probably don't want to put in lots of pictures because of the price.

Well how about most angus catalogs that show every dam, sister, brother, and calf of a lot but not the actual animal in the sale.

What gets me is when people say a calf is on the sale.  They are in the sale not on the sale.
