Wouldn't it be awesome if we (food producers) could all just stop producing food for one year (only enough for our families) and see what would happen. Or just ship everything overseas.  They might start little "community gardens" but I doubt the gardens would get them through the winter. I doubt they are smart enough to come to a solution, it'd be an interesting little experiment.

could they live off of noodles in a box?

Do you think they would wonder why the milk that comes from a store would stop coming?

How could a 26year old heifer possibly know where milk comes from?

Maybe if the food stopped we could change their nickname from "treehuggers" to "grasshuggers" since thats what they'll be eating.

wouldn't it be an interesting experiment though? I've always wondered what would happen. I think they'd be eating their pets by the time the year was up. Too bad we can't control the imports as well, and basically starve out the tree huggers. We'd have to come up with a system where people in support of ag could still survive though......

anyone hear of the new law in iowa regarding the making it illegal to falsify a job app to gain access to a CAFO facility to record, note, or release animals that are believed to be 'inhumane'?

yup.  a while ago.  probably not a deterrent for these people. it would probably be a badge of honor for them.

hopefully it's a felony.  probably get downgraded in court though too.

My wife and I had a discussion awhile ago on what would happen if the economy collapsed. I told it had been a while since I've had to butcher, but I could do it. It's been awhile since I've done alot of things our ancesters way, but the memories will come back. But these people have never done anything like that. They've never sat and listened to stories aboiut how to "get by with nothing". If it finally falls down around their ears ,they'll never think twice about trying to take what they need from someone else- they try to legeslate it every day. Now excuse me while I load my shotgun and lock the bombshelter door.

There's many practices within the ag industry that Needa be reformed- Things like farrowing pens, tie-barns, enclosed indoor feedlots with cattle standing in shitt up to their chest and ammonia levels so high they'll give ya an immediate headache when ya walk in, countless poultry practices, and so forth do nothing but provide fuel for their fire. I've raised cattle all my life- with that said I think extremist at both ends of the spectrum are essential for moderate ground to be established.

Uh... so you won't mind if I tell the DFW news that you bash your calves heads in for fun.  Or I could report that there has been a high percentage of E-coli 0157 H7 in hamburger processed from your herd.  I highly doubt you see anything positive result from it.

I prefer honest debate of facts.  Extreme agendas that use false information to alter perception provide nothing beneficial for an industry, person, or individual business.

The practices I mentioned are real and need to be addressed; yours are false and unfounded.   Just as in politics, there are the extremist liberal dems and then there's the bible thumping conservative repubs.  Most don't fall into either category, rather most identify as both fiscal and social moderates.   While both extremes exist,  reasonably minded rationally thinking individuals realize that the TRUTH lies in the middle.

Chandler - many large companies are steering away from farrowing pens (mainly because of these groups).  What I remember about farrowing outside or open pens was sows exposed to the elements, and a high death rate with the pigs (mainly from getting stepped on or laid on by mamma).  This is just one example of change which isn't necessarily bad but is deffinitely going to cost more for the consumer!  There are bad eggs in the ag sector but most care very much about the animals they take care of 365 days of the year (it's their way of life).  I suppose one could have gone to Texas during the past year and videoed lots of skin and bone cows or seen skinny cows belly deep in a mud hole trying to get some water and put it on TV talking about animal abuse.  My point is the industry hasn't and will never benefit from these groups, they don't care about the animals - that's just how they get people to support them.  These groups are not dumb they are brilliant at what they do, the objective for them isn't to get all cows and pigs on grass in the sun, it's to get rid of the pigs, cows, etc.  There are lots of things on any farm that could be videoed and twisted around and displayed to a public that has no rational line of thinking about where their food comes from!

ONe thing I like about PETA is hey everybody knows it is animal rights with some crazies in it.  But there are several other of these groups that are lots bigger than PETA (HSUS) and are alot less known (as far as their true dealings -wolves in sheep clothing).  These groups aren't going to stop until every last cattle, hog, chicken, turkey, dogs, cats, etc. operation or owners are no longer (obsolete is the goal)! :o

Maybe PETA should look into club calf calving ease?
