On my way to work on the local news this am they said that PETA was having a small protest in Regina this am.
They are again attacking the beef industry and trying to convert everyone to be a vegeterian, go figure.  They said there will have two protesters there with their bodies marked like the diagram of a carcass with the cuts marked. No doubt they will get some people going just to see that.
I recently heard from a avid hunter that Pepsi is a big supporter of PETA, so though I am not a pepsi drinker myself I will never buy one of their products again.
I know it will not make a huge dint in their pocket book but we all need to make sure we do not purchase from any compamy, entertainer, etc that supports this group of radicals.
Too bad that a group of beef producers could not be there to ensure they do not totally "TWIST THE TRUTH" and make us look like the bad guys.

I know your trying to get people not to buy products from companies that support them...but I kinda feel like putting their name on a public forum just helps their cause by giving them a chance to be seen and heard where they otherwise would not have been.. Thats just what they want if you know what I mean...JMO

I see your point, Rackranch, but I doubt that the philosophy of "lets not talk about it and hope it goes away" probably won't help matters either.  We need to tell our stories, because the fact is we generally want good welfare for our animals.  And we're going to have to change some things we do.  And customers are going to have to pay more for it.  That's my opinion.

They (as my daughter calls them Hippies and tree huggers) were in full force at the MO State fair.  Really gave the hog kids alot of greif about shaving there hogs.  She had one come up to her and ask how she'd like to be tied all day.  Her reply was 1. How many baths a day do you get?  2. Do you go to the beauty shop ever?  Well these here heifers bath twice a day, get a blow out on there hair, and have skin conditions to make sure there skin is not dried out.  Then she said watch this, she walked up to her heifer KatieKat, rubed her neck and Katie started licking her.  She smiled and said I love my cattle alot and take very good care of them and as you can see they love me too.  She then invited them to come pet her.  OF COURSE, they refused and stopped away looking defeated.  I was pretty proud of how well she handled it.  She was very insulted that they thought she would ever hurt or make her heifer feel uncomfortable.

Denny Banister from MO Farm Bureau wrote and excellent article about the state fair.  He encouraged people to ask questions and talk to the youth and get a real feel of what rural living is all about.  I wish I could find it and post it for everyone to read.

I really should find a reason to go to Regina today. I heard on the radio that these two women were standing at a major intersection and were virtually naked with the cuts of beef painted on their bodies. The radiio reported that the men they interviewed were very amused, and the women they interviewed were disgusted.  That seems strange?? haha

peta had a billboard with ol' pamela anderson with carcass on her body. Thankfully, the city, which I can't recall but it was in Canada, banned the ad and refused to allow it.

Ignoring these people will not help, nor will shoving our heads in the sand refusing to stand up for our industry. Several sites to go to for information is petakillsanimals.com, humanewatch.com, and consumerfreedom.com    Go ahead and look those site up.... and enjoy reading them!!!

One fact to leave you with: Did you know that the humane society spends only $1 for every $200 it raises to help animals? The rest is spent on lobbiest and retirement funds for themselves.

(My edit was to make the websites BOLD and in COLOR, as it is apparent a few missed them!)

JIT, I think this is an emergency!!   You better get up there right away and make sure they painted those lines in the right places.   We wouldn't want anyone confused about exactly where they are supposed to be.   I know you're busy and hate being around semi-nude women, but think of it as your duty to the rest of the industry.   OH, by the way take a few pictures so we can see how bad they messed up on the different cuts!!  Thanks in advance from the rest of us!!

Maybe someone should go over and check their "cover"  LOL

Seriously though, PETA and it's supporters need to be addressed.  I have seen what anti-slaughter laws have done to the horse world.  A horse with no place to go is a sad situation.  Granted we do not eat them in this country but without the slaughter to send the mean, unwanted, cripple, starving horses, PETA has doomed them to an often prolonged agony of travel and inhumane treatment at ill run slaughter plants or abandonement right in thier stalls or left to fend for themselves.  Son did research report on this and I was more than shocked.

So when you see them, ask them first thier beliefs.  Engage them.  Ask them about the feeding and welfare of the animals you have.  You will find they are not usually don't know much about what it take for the basic care of a farm animal.  They are entitled to thier opinion just as I am but to be righteous without knowledge is just plain stupidity at it's best.

The values of this organization in question are warped.  In the case of livestock (horses included) they believe that if the animal is raised for food production it should not have come into existence in the first place.  As far as the people(representatives) I talked to were concerned the consequences to entire species and welfare of animals were not considered.  According to PETA we have no right owning a animal at all. Gotta love researching for a school report it brings strangeness to light fully and completely. What is more interesting is in this research project I found the following website... http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ These people were able to forward information to me which I was able to use as "evidence" in my report

pamela anderson is a walking billboard for mutilation.  her breasts and lips are gross.  her eye makeup makes her look terrible.  it's degrading to women and sets a bad example for young girls.

i wonder if milk yield is increased with silicon implants.

why can't we legislate a vegetarian diet for lions.

The horse market has suffered from that move. At auctions out here, if you come with a trailer you better put a lock on it! It cost more to get the horse coggins tested and consign it to a sale then what you will get out of it, so people are dumping their horses on trailers that are not locked! I had a great stud that I had just started promoting, and ended up gelding him a few years after the slaughter houses closed because you could not give away the foals! That is when I moved to cattle (great choice), because you can at least eat them if you do not want them  ;)

As a county Farm Bureau board member I love to talk to people like that ! You cant believe the things those people actually think and say. The youngest 4-H member knows more than these people. As a farmer, cattle producer and father Ibeleive we must try to educate them every chance we get. These people can sway politicians with their endless supply of cash and members. Ive heard it said most city people are 3 generations removed from the farm, so theyve probably never talked to anyone who lives in the country let alone farmed or produced any kind of food. We need to tyell our story or someone else will---- and we wont like their version.

thank you for the post 'justme".  I hope that all agricultural based families and kids can respond back to PETA that way and totally disarm them with the answers.
I am sure PETA had someone or something at the Iowa State Fair, but while I was there last week, I never heard about anything going on with them.  I would have gladly done the same thing if they had come to our stalls!  (clapping)
PS A friend showed me this site at the ISF and this is my first post!

I recently heard that an activist group was trying to pass a bill to stop the A.Iing of cattle. Do they not understand how much the cattle industry relies on AI? Well I guess we are talking about PETA..
