PETA has sent a letter to the SD State Fair Board requesting that they do a backround check on all livestock exhibitors. They request that each exhibitor have a documented plan for capture of possible escaped animals, herpes and TB test because they can be passed to humans, and documentation of any prior incidence where the animal entered may have caused harm to themselves or humans.

They continued to say in the letter that ideally the SDSF would eliminate all livestock shows. Just thought I should let everybody know that PETA has finally tried to interfer in SD.

I am sure other states are used to these problems, but it is something us in SD, for the most part, haven't had to deal with on the local level.

Sometimes I wonder if it just better to ignore their nonsense requests, and therefore not give them the satisfaction that we are willing to work with them. I realize that shows and fairs are going to have to look at some of their practices, but I think we should be doing it on our own terms not others.

a response might be that there be a requirement for all PETA members to wear a jacket when entering fairgrounds where animals are present to help exhibitors out that people without common sense are present and to give them a wide berth for everyone's safety and minimizing lawsuits and hard feelings.

it's pretty clear who exhibitors are, but not PETA.

If this group continues with their stuppid idea's in this country we won't be eating any kind of meats.  I know for a fact that there is no common sense with these people.  The most of us cattle people take better care of our animals, than some people do with their kids.  They (peta) better understand we are not going to stand for paying taxes if my cows bulch or farts out in the fields.  Maybe they ought to  work on getting more jobs for people in this country, instead of trying to put the farmers out of work also......  Get a life people.

I think Knabe is on to something. Make all PETA, animal rights activitist  wear an identifiable badge in clear view of everyone to see. They claim they are "proud" to be these activitist so let them prove it.  And then, let the sticks fall where they might.

Did you all hear about the turtle tunnels they want to build in florida so the turtles won't get hit by cars? Gues when PETA cuts our jobs as cattlemen we can get jobs "herding" turtles into the tunnells. Ride'em Cowboy! Let's get those turtle rollin'!

Now PETA is upset with Obama for killing a fly in his interview. They said he could've used a bug vacuum to catch the fly and release it outside.

I'm glad they came out with this statement because all the newscasters are making fun of PETA about how ridiculous they are.

Uh oh. Background checks? Well I'm just gonna have to disappear from the shows, ya know until things COOL down. Better get a documented plan of action, case my herefords decide to raise some heck at a show, ya know I'm pretty sure I saw that calf swatted a fly with it's tail. Man you really gotta watch your back at these shows. As for those cattle people, they gotta be some of the roughest crowd I've been around, wouldnt wanna run into any of 'em in a dark alley. That last part is probaly true for people representing PETA.  (lol)

Wow, I finally did something PETA would be happy with me about!  I fed a bunch of flies a dead rat that I poisoned and then shot.  Oh, wait a minute, they might be upset about the dead rat, wonder what their method for disposing of them would be??????

it's obvious that background checks should be performed on all PETA members before entering fairgrounds or whatever since they are representing something, and if they don't, they should be fined for trespassing, harassment and a variety of other offenses.

simple, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

have them wear special easy to see exhibotor badges with contact info.

course no one will stand up to them, least of all elected officials.

Yeah, PETA might get mad that I treat my calves better than I treat myself most of the time.  I mean, the fact that they eat better, sleep more, and are under fans when it's 100 degrees outside at a show shows that I really don't care about my calves.  I wonder what PETA would think about that?

PETA seeks 'cow empathy museum' at site of closing dairy

PORTSMOUTH

PETA has an idea for the Pet Dairy milk-production plant that’s closing in August: Turn it into a “cow empathy museum.”

The Norfolk-based animal rights group sent a letter today to Gregg Engles, the CEO of Dean Foods Co., which owns Pet Dairy, asking to lease the building on Turnpike Road.

“The museum would convert a building built upon cruelty into a tribute to compassion and kindness,” wrote Tracy Reiman, PETA’s executive vice president.

Reiman said in the letter than the Cow Empathy Museum would have educational displays that highlight facts such as that cows “are forcefully impregnated every nine months ... in order for humans to constantly milk them.” Interactive displays would include “being crammed into a crate to simulate the life of a calf raised for veal.”

Dean Foods announced Monday that it would close the plant in August and lay off about 100 people.

PETA’s suggestion came a day after the group chided President Obama for squashing a fly during a TV interview.
