I did a search for a picture of Lucy Dice's sire, Lchmn Lucky Buck, who was also the sire of Lucky Strike (a full bro to Lucky Dice and also a spot gene carrier) and Lucky Break, etc... Couldn't find a pic of him. He was black faced with quite a bit of white on his belly. Out of Irish Black Knight who was a baldy bull and a full brother to Black Mick and Red Brother...those three bulls were serious cow makers! Their mama was Big Sandy Ranch R821 who was a beautiful black baldy cow with a lot of Fleck influence.

I got to see the Lucky Buck bull in Gateway's bull pasture back in the summer of '96. There were probably 12-15 bulls out there, and several of em were AI stud bulls including Red Light who was relatively young in that group. Lucky Buck was probably the best looking bull in the bunch...I remember him being one of the first ones I pointed at and asked, "Who's that?"

little in the udder region as well...

interesting that a bull of his color-- could create such crazy colored offspring... (angel)

That's genetics! And recessive genes...

Some of em were pretty dang good, though. We still have a daughter that's one of our best cows and maybe the cornerstone of our next great cow family. He got a reputation for not having any milk, but we had several at one time and never had one that didn't milk. We had a non-spotter son that we raised and used to clean up for a while, too...he was good.

I did find a pic of Irish Rover...R821's sire. THIS is where the spots came from! At least some of em... Irish Black Knight, Black Mick and Red Brother were Fleck bred on the top side, too...out of Black Knight U2 who was a G809 son. So out of the three full brothers, there was a solid black non spotter, a red baldy with a spot gene, and a black baldy, also with the spot gene.

I have a Lucky Dice granddaughter (which is where my interest stems)>  She's 3/4 Red Angus though-  Shown here as a first calf heifer-- She's working on calf number 3..  The first, a 90 lb solid black bull we had to pull from Low BW son of Final Answer, and this time she had a spotter R/W bull from last year's shorthorn cleanup bull.  Ironically, he almost identically follows his sire's color pattern.

I really like our LD granddaughter- really good cow that I think will last for awhile.

Wuts this bull calve like? Looks like hed work on Shorthorns or blues O0

You mean Lucky Dice?...He's pretty decent actually. His tenure was cut short as a hot bull to use because of the color thing, and especially at the time he was around. ANY white around that time was a serious issue for seed stock Simmental breeders. Then his milk numbers went down some and everybody was on to the next great one...
Our calves were good, though, and we never actually had a spotted one out of him.

I have a pic somewhere of the Lucky Dice bull we raised and used for clean up...

This is him...
He was out of a G&L Blackfoot x Nichols Black Advantage cow. Pretty good cow family that went back to a cow I got at Scotty Burtner's in Virginia.

I was actually happy with the way the bull bred.  We got about 4 calves by him, and at this stage of the game, they've got some meat on um, some bone under um, and some balance about them.  I was really wondering and getting worried about the time we pulled him- he was thin and shallow...  I haven't seen him since he left last year about Feb- but I know when he left, he had two more herds to visit.  My neighbor also got a nice set of calves from him- all bulls (4) though- go figure the neighbor want's to build a cowherd...

We have a Blackfoot G cow x Triple C Invasion embryo due in March. It was sexed as a bull, and we wanted heifer. Blackfoot made some really nice cows, and when I came across these embryos for $100 each, I jumped at them. Got 3 more in the tank, hope to get a heifer next time! Here is a copy of the donor cow...

Yep...That's them! Thanks...

See...I remember her looking more like a tank than she looks in that picture to me now. I still like her...but I remember thinking she looked REALLY deep! Lucky Buck is kind of an ugly joker in this picture, but he didn't look like that at all when I saw him in the pasture at Gateway. He was pretty impressive out there.
