I posted pictures of my daughters heifer last week after she was trimmed up for the first time.  Well, I wanted to post pictures of my daughter with the calf at their first show. We went to the show early Saturday morning.  My daughter had a blast and as soon as she walked out of the ring, she told me she was ready to do it again.  Unfortunately, we didn't win our class so she will have to wait until the next show in a few weeks.    I think I found my showman because she relished the chance to be in front of everyone with her calf.  Mr. Stierwalt went up to her and told her she did a good job and he liked her pink boots.  In an effort not to sound too disappointed with the results this weekend, I thought we should have won the class.  Enjoy the pictures.

Just give that hiefer time-youve got her growing and looking freah-without too much too soon-your daughter has a good base to compete with for a long time, and its great to see kids that like the work and the ring. O0

Thanks for replying Mark Tenenbaum and showemall.  I have received some advice from a few people that have seen her and they recommend me changing my feed to something with more fat.  They say I need to get her fat in order for her to compete at a high level.  I am feeding her Purina fitters edge with just a little cotton seed hulls.  They recommended me adding a top dressing or change to the finisher.  Not sure what to do.  My brother is a dealer for Sunglo and I thought about getting some Full Tank for her.  Do you think Full Tank would help her?

Last show season we used a Purina Product called Depth Charge and it worked wonders to create that deep look in her heifers but yet keeping them maternal looking.  We also used Purina Fitters Edge last show season but this year we have switched to a Form-A-Feeds product.  Have only been to two shows since feeding and we did very well at the first show but not as well at the second show but still placed quite high.  The steer we are feeding was not at his best at the December show though but looks awesome now, at least we think.  We also fed High Octane Champion Drive from Purina last show season and we will probably be feeding that again this year. As well, we feed lots and lots of beet pulp.  Hope this helps a bit.

My girl started showing this year also and we had a ton of fun. I've gotten a bigger kick out of doing this with her than I did when I was showing myself.  I think you have a nice calf by the pictures. I would caution you on getting her too fat as a calf. I dislike fat calves. Depth Charge, Expando, etc are all pelleted fillers that work well. You can also get pelleted cottonseed hulls. Be careful not to overdue it and work with someone that has experience with these products so you can find the right mix.  Different calves need different feeding regimens also.  Good Luck.

One more thing, at one show I thought we kinda got the shaft but my daughter had just as much fun there.  Probably the best lesson for me all summer--keep the attitude in check and let the kids have fun showing calves.

It looks like you will have a lot of great times in the coming years!!!! (dog)

I too would agree the the heifer looks good and i would caution at getting her too fat.  I will not allow my heifers to get too fat because they have to return home and become productive cows.

Keep up the good work and enjoy the time you spend with your daughter!!! (clapping) (clapping)
